ISLAMABAD: Khawaja Asif, Minister of Water and Power, Monday admitted that power load shedding would not end even in 2018.
In a written reply submitted in the National Assembly, Asif said that the demand of power would be 25,790 MW in 2018 while the country would be generating 18,034 MW.
The federal minister informed the lower house of the parliament that there are 43 power generation companies, of which 14 are not operational.
No independent power company is producing according to its full capacity, he said, adding that 21 companies are generating less than 50 percent, while only three power projects are generating 90 percent electricity.
Asif said that 6 different types of taxes were imposed on electricity bills while General Sales Tax (GST) was raised from 15 percent to 17 percent. One percent tax is also being collected under additional tax, he added. –Samaa
