Peshawar: A 22-year-old Pakistani national, who crossed over the border to meet Bollywood stars Shahrukh Khan and Kajol, returned home after spending 22 months in an Indian jail. Abdullah, a resident of Mingora of scenic Swat district of Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, was arrested by the Indian authorities on May 25, 2017, when he had come to witness the Beating Retreat Ceremony held every evening at the Wagah border gates.
He crossed the Zero Line after the ceremony and told the Border Security Force officials that he wanted to meet Shahrukh and Kajol. He was repatriated on Wednesday through the Attari-Wagah border on the basis of an emergency travel certificate issued by the Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi, officials said.
Upon arrival at his native home, he was garlanded by his relatives, neighbours, friends and well-wishers. Speaking to local media in Swat, Abdullah said he crossed the border in a bid to meet Shahrukh and Kajol of whom he is a great fan.
"I was arrested by India's Border Security Force and shifted to a police station before being sent to Central Jail Amritsar," he said. "I wrote a letter to Indian Government through jail authorities for arranging a meeting with Shahrukh and Kajol but no reply was made to his request," he added.
Stating that his wish of meeting the duo Bollywood stars could not be fulfilled, Abdullah said that earlier he had applied for Indian visa to meet the two Bollywood stars, but the application was turned down.
Abdullah appealed to the Pakistani citizens not to enter India through illegal ways. "I will not try again to enter India through illegal way," he said.

MINGORA: Abdullah, 21, who had crossed Wagah border in May 2017 to meet Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan, said that he was popularly called Shah Rukh Khan in the Indian jail where he spent 19 months.
The young Swati, a resident of Shahdara Watakey area in Mingora, is a fan of Shah Rukh Khan. He was released by the Indian government as a goodwill gesture on December 26.
However, Abdullah said that he would once again try to go to India and fulfil his childhood dream of meeting Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol, another Bollywood star.
“There were more than 50 Pakistanis in the central jail of Amritsar. Some have crossed the border by mistake while some have done it deliberately. There was another Pakistani, who was in love with Pooja Bhatt. He went there but was arrested. The prisoners would call him Pooja Bhatt in the jail,” he said.
Abdullah said that it was his second attempt to cross the Indian border and meet Shah Rukh Khan.
“When I planned to visit India, I got a passport and went to Indian embassy in Islamabad but it refused to issue me visa. It hurt me and I decided to cross the border without visa,” he said.
Abdullah said that an Indian soldier warned him to go back or he would shoot him when he crossed the border.
“But I refused and told him that I wanted to meet Shah Rukh Khan. He once again ordered me to go back but I did not obey. So another soldier came and took me to an office and then shifted me to the jail,” he added.
The Swati youth said he was sad in the jail. He said that he would think that the Indian authorities would not let him go back for the rest of his life. He added that he could not believe when a friend in the prison informed him about his release.
“When my release date was confirmed the other Pakistani prisoners became very happy. We arranged a small party in the jail. It was like an Eid for me when I reached home and met my parents, brothers and sisters,” he said.
Abdullah said that millions of fans of Bollywood actors were in Pakistan and there were fans of some of Pakistani actors in India but they could not meet them because of the non-issuance of visa.
Sardar Ali, the elder brother of Abdullah, said that his family was excited to see him back for which he was grateful to the Indian government besides Afrasiab Khattak, Amar Jeet Malhotra, Amir Muqam, Murad Saeed and media as they played role in his release.
