news.outlookindia.com | Set Tech Agenda for Us: IAF Chief to Defence Scientists

Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal P V Naik today told defence scientists to set the technology agenda for the IAF rather than being told what to develop in demand-driven environment.

"In the broader perspective, I feel DRDO (Defence Research and Development Organisation) in some of the elements follows demand-driven approach for meeting the Indian Air Force requirements," he said in his address on DARE (Defence Avionics Research Establishment, a DRDO lab) Raising Day here.

This approach means that after IAF decides on a capability (to be developed), DRDO starts working on that which denies cutting-edge technology available in the global market (at the time), he said.

"You (DRDO scientists) are aware of the present, emerging and cutting-edge technologies. You understand IAF requirements. If not, we can work together on that. So, it's you who should be telling us what to go for," he said.

"With your knowledge and with your brains, you should be telling us. This (technology) is available. It will be available in 15 years (to make the time-frame known). This is what we can give", he said.

Only then, the Air Chief Marshal said, IAF could get best products based on technologies developed by DRDO which could give IAF the operational capability that it can use to exploit to meet national objectives.

this what takes time to develop a product. IAF gives requirements and only then DRDO starts a know how process which will surely take time.. the same is the problem for delaying of every DRDO product...

Lot of funds for R&D is required to have such a capability...

Yes, Exactly... People in Govt enterprises are filled with Egos, A Scientist and a Junior Engineer have communication gap and They Do Not co exist, Because they lack Team spirit, The Scientist has Superiority complex and The Junior engineer has Inferiority Complex.... Where is the Team spirit here??

Has any one seen Some one calling his boss Sir in a corporate world??? Well I call my boss with name... With a Mr as Prefix which By itself is not expected from us....

Now thats Team, one should have an Idea that, we are a team working for One cause and there should be one Motive....
