Security forces have suppressed the attack of hundreds of Taliban insurgents in southern Zabul.
A high ranking security official said the attack was led by a local Taliban commander by the name of Peer Agha.

Haji Asif Tokhi said local Taliban militants were supported by their comrades from neighboring Kandahar and some foreign insurgents.

He said militants launched the attacked on security posts in Shah Joy District early on Wednesday and the gun battle between them and security forces continued for several hours.

“14 Taliban were killed and 19 others wounded in the clash,” Tokhi said, adding that clearance operation against Taliban still continues in Shah Joy District.

According to Tokhi, two security men embraced martyrdom and another sustained injuries in the clash but another security official who suggested anonymity said that three soldiers lost lives and seven other wounded.

This comes as heavy clashes have been erupting between Taliban and security forces in another southern province.

Security forces are battling Taliban to push them back from Sangin District of Helmand province.
