'Sea Games gold within six years'​

THE Malaysian Basketball Association (Maba) have big dreams under their new president, Datuk Lee Tian Hock.

Not only are they targeting a Sea Games gold medal within six years, Maba are also going the FA of Malaysia's way by naturalising players in the hope of attaining success.

Their other goals are to modernise their headquarters in Kuala Lumpur and ensure the association is financially stable.

Tian Hock announced his vision and goals for Maba after he was unanimously appointed president following the national body's extraordinary general meeting (AGM), replacing Datuk Tan Kang Yong yesterday.

"Believe me, we will achieve our gold medal target within the next six years," Tian Hock assured in his maiden speech to a round of applause from all 18 MABA affiliates in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.

The last time Malaysia won gold at the biennial Games was in the 2017 KL edition through the women's team.

The men's team, however, have not won gold since the 1989 Games, also in KL.

Tian Hock assured that MABA are financially sound for the next 12 months after donating RM1 million to ensure this year's operations are carried out.

"We will plan the activities for MABA, our medium-term plan. It will take time to solicit funds, so I have donated RM1 million for our events this year.

"Whether or not there is a cut in funding, we don't know, but we will pursue with the Sports Ministry and the other bodies.

"We will have our first executive committee meeting (exco) on Jan 22, where the secretariat will lay out plans for this year. So far, we have not conceptualised anything.

"Let us meet and make the announcement then. Any planning and expenditure must be endorsed by the exco first," added Tian Hock.

Tian Hock appointed Tan Kee Hian as the new MABA secretary-general, replacing Tong See Koou.

Unlike in FIBA competition where there is only one naturalized player can play in any national team, Vietnam as SEAGAMES 2022 host frees every team to have as much naturalized players to play in basketball games in Seagames Hanoi. Vietnam will use 6-7 naturalized players coming from mixblooded Vietnamese playing in the Western countries for men team 5x5.

As preparation for FIBA Asia Cup in July, Indonesia will use the same team in Seagames so we only use 1 naturalized player in 5x5 men game where for 3x3 games we are preparing three naturalized players from USA and Senegal

3x3 teams with 3 naturalized players from USA and Senegal. Other African American seen here is part of coach team. This is selection, only 4 players will go to Hanoi, Vietnam in May 2022.

One of Indonesian men basketball player who is still in high school ( about to finish his high school this April in Australia) has been accepted by NCAA division 1 university ( Out of 3 US university competing in Division 1 NCAA who offer him scholarships).

Division 1 NCAA in USA is the highest university competition in USA where many NBA players come from. He will play in SEAGAMES as well, so it will be a surprised for all ASEAN basketball teams competing in SEAGAMES Hanoi in May

Indonesian Basketball National Team A Winner of ABL 3x3​

Liputan6.com, Jakarta- The Indonesian basketball team A managed to win the ABL 3x3 International Champions Cup 2022 in the men's category. National team A won over the Malayan Tigers 21-15 in the final on Sunday (17/4/2022).

By becoming a champion, national team A is entitled to a prize of Rp. 150 million. Meanwhile, the Malayan Tiger took home a prize of Rp. 75 million.

The third place was won by Platinum Karaoke who won 15-8 over VN Red and Gold. They received a prize of Rp. 30 million.

The success of the Indonesian basketball team in winning the ABL 3x3 International Champions Cup 2022 is a valuable asset to face the 2021 SEA Games in Hanoi, Vietnam which will take place 12-23 May 2022.

The Indonesian National Team A is inhabited by Surliyadin, Sandy Ibrahim, and Oki Wira. Their strength is combined with naturalized player Jamarr Andre Johnson.

"Alhamdulillah, the holy month of Ramadan brings blessings to the 3x3 basketball national team . Hopefully everything can run smoothly and get maximum results at the 2022 Vietnam SEA Games," said 3x3 national team manager Putra Ferri Jufry in a written statement.

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian women's 3x3 national basketball team has good chemistry for competing in the Vietnam SEA Games, coach July Wong said.

"I am proud. The athletes never give up, and always do hustle play. It was our first trial and they tried the system and looked for the chemistry between players. From this match, we can evaluate and mature the chemistry and system," the coach remarked here on Wednesday.

Wong issued the statement after the women's 3x3 team's appearance at the 2022 ABL 3x3 International Champions Cup in Bali last week.

According to a statement from the Board of the Indonesian Basketball Association (PP Perbasi), the women's 3x3 basketball national team ranked third in the trial tournament.

The result was a positive start for improving the cohesiveness between players ahead of the 2021 SEA Games, which will take place from May 12–23, 2022, Wong said.

She explained that the trial tournament has helped track the squad's progress and solidarity. The women's 3x3 team also underwent centralized training at GOR CLS Surabaya in February 2022, she informed.

Of the four players who participated in the 2022 ABL 3x3 International Champions Cup, Dewa Ayu Made Sriartha alone has had experience playing in the women's 3x3 basketball team during the 2019 Philippine SEA Games.

Meanwhile, Kimberley Pierre-Louis, Dyah Lestari, and Nathania Orville played together for the first time in Bali.

"We still have to keep improving, especially the shots accuracy. A lot of shots were missed. They were not calm enough, and (need improvement in) transition of offense and defense," Wong said.

Although the team has begun to show chemistry, Wong said that the women's 3x3 team that played in ABL 3x3 has not been confirmed for the SEA Games.

"In this event, we only brought four players to (play) to see their chemistry. But we are still in the selection stage and not yet the final," she added.
