'Scorpene sub project hit by 3-year delay' - India - The Times of India

NEW DELHI: The government on Monday admitted that the mammoth Rs 18,798 crore project to construct six French Scorpene submarines at Mazagon Docks Ltd in Mumbai had been hit by massive slippages, which in turn would adversely impact Navy's underwater combat capabilities.

TOI was the first to report that the project, under which the six submarines were to roll out one per year from December 2012 onwards, is running close to three years behind schedule.

"There has been delay due to initial teething problems, absorption of technology, augmentation of MDL infrastructure and procurement of MDL purchased material. The first submarine is now expected to be delivered in the second half of 2015," defence minister A K Antony said.
