I believe editorial independence is one of the conditions in the sale of SCMP to Jack Ma, similar to RTHK being anti China despite being a HK government financed government agency.

I did noticed an increase in pro China articles recently and more comments defending China POV.
In fact pro China voices are rising.
It will take time to drive out all these foreign funded and aligned anti China editors and journalists entrenched in SCMP.

These days, SCMP and its troop of privileged foreign expat "columnists" along with its local "we don't mind our second class status" China hating "writers" continue to complain and bitxh and scaremonger loudly.

But annoying as they are, funny these cockroach "reporters?" just simply don't register with the majority of the Hong Kong populous. Maybe it's because all those subversive NGOs and consulate spies, who represent a huge percent of its readership, have already left, so it's audience got a lot smaller. All the bitxhing now seems soooooo out-of-touch.

No one listens to SCMP anymore. The HK government used to take note of its views, but lately, its opinions are no longer worth 50 cents (五毛 or 五豪). Of course, to Beijing, SCMP's views have always been just dog fart (狗屁) anyway.

Like a child being ignored, these days this tabloid just cries louder and louder and makes up silly headlines such as "Will national security law force exodus of Hong Kong’s teachers?" (where else would cockroach teachers find such cushy jobs?), or "Fears of Hong Kong brain drain amid months of violence and concern over national security law" (contradictory, as NSL ended all violence, plus those who are concerned with NSL are likely criminals anyway), or the headline below "Beacon of press freedom must not be allowed to dim" (translation: please please please let us subversives continue churning out fakes news in trashy papers such as Apple Daily or this Colonial rag!)

Why not just come right out and say it:

"I want to continue being a privileged expat living at Mid-levels, enjoying my weekends at Lan Kwai Fong, having the locals treat me like a king, buying my sandwiches at Oliver's, and maintaining those wonderful expat perks. I don't like the way things are going because the good time for me might soon be over."

I don't blame SCMP, they reflect the society and mentality of the HK people. Looks like the HK people value western countries too much (good or bad is another question). They have this weird habit of using UK/US flags during rallies etc., This is so weird, no other place in earth will you see such rallies. Imagine in India if you use non-Indian flags, you go to jail directly, no questions asked. Everyone wants to live in UK/Canada/Australia etc., You still allow UK judges (seriously??). So why blame SCMP when you have a society like this. I am not sure whose fault is this - but a society which loves another country more than their own needs serious introspection.
