Scholars, politicians lead anti-China wave in India

June 20, 2020

“If I [had a] gun I [would] kill at least 100 Chinese soldiers before I die,” read one post from an Indian netizen on Twitter. Another net user wrote that they would “destroy” China with atom and hydrogen bombs.

Revealing such anti-China sentiments, Chinese paper Global Times says an anti-China wave is sweeping India, with hashtags and posts containing insulting remarks and unsightly pictures reflecting negatively on China. Those whipping anti-China flames include not only politicians but also scholars.

Such anti-China provocations, the paper says, have led to a “boycott China” campaign on social media among Indian users, with some celebrities openly calling for Indians to reject “made-in-China” products.

On Twitter, the paper said in its Friday issue, Indian Union Minister Ramdas Athawale appealed for a boycott of Chinese food and restaurants, and cricketer Harbhajan Singh had called for a ban on all Chinese products. Earlier, engineer and educator Sonam Wangchuk, the inspiration of a main character in Bollywood blockbuster ‘3 Idiots,’ called on Indian smartphone users to un-install Chinese mobile apps.

“It is strange that certain Indian opinion leaders are focusing more on a boycott of Chinese products than on India’s Covid-19 outbreak, which has seen tens of thousands infected across the nation”, Wang Dehua, advisor of the Chinese Association for South Asian Studies and research fellow at the Shanghai Institutes for International Studies, told Global Times.

India has reported 366,946 confirmed Covid-19 cases as of Thursday morning, ranking fourth globally, according to statistics released on the website of India’s health authority.

“They are trying to divert domestic attention from their failures in controlling the pandemic to something else,” he added.

Lau, a Chinese communications equipment exporter living in the Philippines, said almost half of his clients are from India. He told Global Times that he was angered by Indians’ unfriendly Twitter posts targeting China, and said there was an “obvious growth” in the number of such posts.

Lau said that based on his observations, Indian netizens — especially younger ones — are easily inflamed by nationalism, which makes them extreme and irrational.

“Some of them even said on social media that the more Chinese people die, the happier they are,” Lau told Global Times. “That’s terrible.”

“Contrary to irrational Indian netizens”, the paper said, many Chinese netizens had taken to China’s Twitter-like Sina Weibo to call for peace and restraint.

Long Xingchun, a senior research fellow at the Academy of Regional and Global Governance under the Beijing Foreign Studies University and president of the Chengdu Institute of World Affairs, told Global Timesthat strong anti-China sentiments among ordinary Indian people were the result of propaganda from local news outlets, aggressive nationalists and even some scholars.

Some Indian policymakers and think tanks have been working together to orchestrate a wave of anti-China sentiment, and they view China and Sino-Indian relations through a US-biased lens, said Long.

Xiao Jun, a Chinese observer who has lived in India for a few years, told Global Times that anti-China forces in India can normally be divided into four groups. The first are the “diehards” who see China as a hostile power.

They are often deeply affected by the Sino-Indian war of 1962, in which some of their loved ones were killed. The second are the ultranationalists, who have lobbied against Chinese goods like Huawei’s technology. These extreme nationalists are not only against China, but against any country they see as hurting their national pride.

The third are anti-China politicians, who use anti-China sentiment as a stepping stone for their career paths. The fourth are India’s intellectuals and middle class who are sometimes obsessed with and often blindly obey Western values, Xiao said.

According to the Indian media, Indian soldiers were assaulted with iron rods and clubs wrapped in barbed wire laced with nails. Many were thrown off a steep ridge and some of the soldiers fell into the river Galwan. Rules of engagement forbid the two sides from carrying arms in disputed territory.

The mentality of a very immauture nation, in China barely anyone talks about this clash and most Chinese people don't even know this incident. Why emotional Indians try to make a big deal out of nothing every time.

Let them have their own cultural revolution.

And then there are Anti-Nationals of CPI(M) toeing the Chinese line

India has a huge inferiority complex to China. This insecurity is what drives the hyper emotional response to every incident involving China.

It is similar to how China once felt about Japan. Up until 10 years ago, Japan was considered to be far ahead of China and due to historical humiliations, Chinese people were always hyper emotional about Japan while Japanese paid little attention to China. Now it's different because China has surpassed Japan, so Chinese can afford to care less.

So the first time you open your gob in days is to whine about leftists, rather than your incompetent government or your woefully inadequate army? Did leftists bring you to the point where two weeks ago you were itching to invade Gilgit and suddenly now, you're not sure you can hold on to union territories?

This incident is obviously a traffic accident on a motorcycle of the Indian Army, which has nothing to do with the Chinese

The more Indians protest, the wider the virus spreads, the more dead people, and the worse the economy

Indians (mostly the BJP party in power) will try to boycott Chinese products, but how?

Their third rate cellphones they 'assemble' in India (NOT 'manufacture', mind you, unlike Bangladesh) are all assembled from China-made sub-assemblies. The screens, the buttons, the flex motherboard inside, everything is Made in China. The electricity in India is made mostly in power stations supplied by China. The Power Tillers their farmers use to produce their crops are also Made in China, I could go on.

Made in China is all around them.

Sanghis talk a good game, but when it comes to action, they are all hot air.

Sanghis are the root of all troubles India has right now.

Because everything they talk themselves into believing end up exposed as lies. Such things like India is even middle power. No it is garbage shithole and hell on earth. Such as India is mighty country, no it is weaker than Pakistan and lost so pathetically. Such things as China is weak. China shuts its mouth for 70 years building itself. It never participate in these talks that much and cannot give a shit about Indians and India but when India come poking, we punch back fiercely. Indians? They are professional talkers and liars.

This explains the China hate that become even greater now. They already hated us at least most of their bhakt community. Now it is even stronger but we know something about hate. Anyway they will waste more time on hate and lies to each other while we slowly win more and more and they slowly become worst country on this planet if not already there. Dumbshits still don't believe it.
