Good Day! Gentlemen & Ladies of the PDF Forum.

There is a scenario that i am working upon and wanted PDF much vaunted contributors and posters opinion. it is essentially a what if scenario.

Premise of this scenario is PAF inducting 5th Generation Fighters in limited quantity (probably Half a Squadron or a full strength Squadron) in coming months what would be the environment. what will be the consequences in current situation..let say as of today.

What will be the implications across the border. how would it effect the overall Geo-strategic position.

To clarify lets take this 5th Generation Fighter as off the shelf solution..that means No Project Azm or Block III so it is based upon today..current and what if its J-20?

I would expect contributors and posters will discuss this scenario in detail

At this moment we don't have the budget to fly and maintain any 5th gen fighter.

Adding a few 5th Gen fighters to the inventory right now?

There will be absolutely no implications or consequences to anything except indians will go ahead and buy something quickly as well, although they would just be fine without em.

Add a couple of squadrons of 5th Gen fighters and let them be there for a few months. That changes many things. And yet again, india will go ahead and buy some quick solution like F-35.

If india goes ahead and request F-35 she will have to let go S-400 SAM system..am i correct? would india do that?

@TheTallGuy welcome back, my dear YoungPak!

We need to understand that weapon platforms are policy instruements... having and not having creates the ability/inability to impact a situation.

Now regarding your proposal... short answer seems to be NO!

It is not just about having a J20 but everything that goes with it.

Besides half a Sqd would not create the impact that would be necessary... think about entire EcoSystem that would be required for any PolicyInstruement.

And introduction of any platform in our theatre changes Geopolitical Calculus... so it is not that straight forward.

My vote, as always, is for Strategic Independence .... that goes through JF Blk3 all the way to AZM. We must continue on this path...

For now IoJK is a FrozenWar ready to become hot any moment...

How is DogHunting? Any luck?

You be good and take care of yourself!

Mangus

I just attempt to understand and correlate..and the situation is complex...Quaid -e- Azam RA was correct after all.

I think it wouldnt change much because PAF pilots (or any pilot for that matter) would take some time to master the aircraft. Lets just say that the pilots are already trained on that specific aircraft even then such small number wouldnt change much in a war.

We dont need them at the moment, we also cannot afford them. Though a scenario might arise if the US gives india F35s.

Few years also is too early
Neither china is going to give you their not Russia forget USA

Implications are deadly, India will be forced to look towards f-35 , less likely pakfa.
But definitely it's an area where Pakistan finds itself not Ina wise position to throw money at

Indian investment in layered air defenses like S-400, thereby restoring deterrence. In the event of a conflict, fifth-generation forces will be able to penetrate and degrade hostile air defenses and deliver decisive effects (kinetic, electronic, and cyber) against Indian forces, infrastructure, and networks, thereby helping to defend Alliance territory and deny Indian forces their objectives. The same capabilities that enable fifth-generation platforms to evade, degrade, and defeat hostile air defenses are also of inestimable value in supporting and even enhancing the activities of legacy aircraft as well as forces in other domains.

As a Network Expert and worked as an R&D associated with Thales, I really try to understand this Node Mesh network on Matlab and Opnet. A new operational architecture is being created, one in which fifth-generation platforms are nodes on a network that spans multiple domains. Some observers have called this the “Combat Cloud.” Continuous information sharing across a distributed network allows advanced aircraft to change missions at a moment’s notice and allows entire force packages to reconfigure themselves in the air so long as changes to weapons load-outs are not required. the most powerful role played by fifth-generation systems is as sensor/information nodes in a robust network that includes not only other fifth-generation platforms, but legacy aircraft, information collectors in other domains, and weapons systems operated by other services.

So in a sense it will be a watershed moment..while India will not able to Purchase F35 due to US policy why would India give away its independence and let go S400 SAM Systems and what not..is india willing to set aside Russia and 90% of her armed forces supplied by Russia? its an honest question?

What will be the consequences of 5th Generation Fighter even if a squadron worth in PAF. PAF will suffer US Sanctions on F16s..again US Policy. 76 F-16s will be short on spares..in short time will be rationed flying for them...but does it hurt the PAF as it did in 1990s..i think it will not..

We already have JF17 Thunder Block 1/2/2T and Possible Block 3/3T in pipeline PAF for the 1st Time in it history will not be dependent on US Policy.

Hi,

Work on the 5th gen project but do not procure any at this time---. Keep adding the 4th or 4.5 gen as long as you can---.
