What does it feel like to be a Pakistani Hindu?

My answer might offend some people,
but I am not going to give an answer as
an anonymous. I will try my level best
to explain what I think as being a
Pakistani Hindu.
To be really honest, deep inside, I feel
really bad.
Before the partition, we all were called
as Hindustani. At the time of partition,
our parents decided to live in Pakistan
rather than choosing India. Now, why
they chose Pakistan over India is
another debate, but I am sure that they
were not aware of the price they and
next generations had to pay for this
decision.
I have to say that, despite being calm,
non-violent and educated citizens, we
are not completely owned by the
Pakistani people and yet being target
most in the region. Starting from school
life to getting a job, I experienced such
events that conclude that we are not
recognised by the Pakistani people yet.
When I was in school where first half
an hour students used to spend by
reciting Quran. Instead of giving us
some sort of our religion book to read
or something, teachers used to ask us to
read Quran as well and if you cannot
read then listen others very carefully.
Being a child of 3rd or 4th standard,
you are not allowed to argue with a
teacher neither you acquire that much
sense to figure out if your rights are
being ignored. We just followed
whatever they instructed us.
As I grew older and went to high
schools, the situation was even worse.
In high schools, we used to study
Islamiat subject and a teacher used to
call Hindus as 'Kafir' (infidel) and
treated us as Islam is the only mature
religion in this world.
The journey from school to university is
not that easy where people make you
feel that your religion is worthless and
you going to hell after death anyway.
Therefore, students and teachers make
so many attempts as you join their
religion and live a prosperous life. Not
only this, people make fun of the way
Hindus practice their religion in other
words, they mocked our religion.
In addition, when it came to celebrate
festivals they become more intolerant
such as Diwali is one of the prestigious
Hindu events just like Christmas for
Christian and Ramadan for Muslims. I
am witnessed of several occasions
where the local town government used
to give us a warning for celebrating
Diwali. I do not understand why they
could not digest the happiness of other
religion's people.
Well, lets come down to an another
issue that mostly Pakistani people face
and it is 'Blasphemy ' but Only Muslims
have the power to use this word against
other religion's people. If any person
dares to speak against Islam, then he/
she will be stoned to death. But, there is
not an issue if you speak against
Hinduism, Christians or torch their
temples or holy books.
Nowadays, one of the most serious
issues for Pakistani Hindus, especially
for girls, is that they get kidnapped
first, convert into Islam, get married
then sell that girl to third parties. No
one would dare to speak against this
barbarism as people have back of so-
called religious leaders and as I said,
no one takes stand against it. But in
case, if a Hindu guy even think of such
thing for Muslim girl, then he will be
slaughtered instantly with his whole
family. I am aware of such incident,
where the guy and girl was in love and
they were about to get married with all
their will and happiness. You know
what happened next? Girl's family
became aware of this and they killed
the boy's whole family and buried a
boy alive in the town near Sukkur,
Sindh.
We are part of the country that says
everyone has the equal rights, but the
fact is totally opposed. Even in
Pakistan's 1973 constitution, it is
mentioned that no minority person
(Hindu, Christian, Jew and others ) is
allowed to become the Prime Minister
or President of the country. So, if the
government even does not recognise
and accept us as entirely Pakistani then
how can we expect this from ordinary
citizens.
I just do not understand one thing, why
people are so intolerant ? Why they just
cannot let other people to do whatever
want to do ? I am not being biased
about anyone, but we are also part of
the country, we never do such things.
People disrespect our religion but we do
not react and kill those persons. After
all, who are we to decide what is wrong
and what is right?
I believe, every Hindu Pakistani must
be going through similar situations that
I have mentioned above. Some still
tolerate and others migrate to India.
This is why the Hindu population has
gone down sharply from 17% (at the
time of partition) to around 2 to 3 %.
I was born in Pakistan and spent 24 years
of my life and moved here in Australia. My
family still lives in Pakistan and I visit
them once in a year. But I would like to
mention that, despite all of this, I am pro-
Pakistani, deep down inside in some
corner, I love Pakistan. My favourite team
is Pakistan, I love to watch when they beat
India, specially. My favourite cricketer is
Saeed Anwar. My favourite hockey team is
Pakistan. I love to watch when any
Pakistani make us proud internationally. I
argue with people who speak against
Pakistan. This is due to fact that I have
accepted Pakistan as my country with the
core of my heart. But unfortunately, the
way people treat us is not acceptable in
any case and I do not know how far we
have to go to prove this that we belong to
you guys and accept us as fully Pakistan

In the months after Partition, some 50,000 mosques across present day Punjab, Haryana and Himachel Pardesh were destroyed, burnt or converted into temples, gurdwaras, homes, even. Today, Muslims just comprise 1.5 per cent of Punjab’s population, mostly migrant labour from UP and Bihar… in addition to small pockets of Muslims, such as those belonging to Malerkotla, who did not go to Pakistan in 1947”

Absolutely a great step!!! Pakistan is a growing country with economic ties to be formed across the globe (some already made, waiting for the electric issues to be resolved so the investment can be sent).

She needs to surface as a very modern and stable, tolerant country. And she should make sure her minority population is treated fairly and has high growth potential for this minority Pakistani citizens. Great work :enjoy:
