If you listen to these crappy Hindi news channels sooner or later you will start believing anything. no one is buying faulty reactors. they are much newer design than the ones affected in Japan which are GE models of 1960 vintage. We really have no alternative except nuclear power if India wants to be self reliant in electricity generation. India produces way below the required amount of power generation than is required. this hurts our industrial capabilities and does not give the suitable quality of life to our citizens. we have to curtail our dependence on gulf oil. of course we will have to import the nuclear fuel till we perfect the tritium reactor tech. but the sources of nuclear fuel are far more stabler than the middle east.

Profit comes before public safety for our government. They have signed a pact with France to get faulty nuclear reactors from their nuclear corporation Areva, which has a track record of causing nuclear contamination..

This plant is coming up in Maharastra’s Ratnagiri district and is being opposed by people across the region and the country. The location for this reactor is on a high earthquake zone which has been ignored by the environmental impact assessment. This raises concerns about the safety of people around the plant.

After all this, the government is still getting this untested technology and undermining the safety of its people. Over 28,000 people including me have already signed a petition asking Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to place lives of people before profit. More signatures on this petition will add strength to the opposition and help put pressure on the PM to take some action.

if nuclear reactor in japan are not safe enough than nuclear reactor are not safe enough even around the world that includes reactors in china,usa,france,etc. but the need is to produce better safety procedures to handle the calamities instead of stopping production of nuclear reactor
