Recently Sheikh Hasina and her government took a decision to convert dhaka medical college into Dhaka Medical University. This is a wrong decision. It will break backbone of our health sector....Please Raise your voice against this lame decision.
As you know our doctors want to work in the capital, Many of them use their political identity for the goal..... Pro awamileague doctors' forum is known as Shachip, Pro BNP DAB, Pro Jamat NDF. you know two years ago Shachip doctors vandalised Bangabandhu Sheikh Muzib Medical University because they were not selected but the truth is all who were selected were Shachip doctors. They just could not accommodate everyone.. Now Hasina has come with a new plan to convert DMC into DMU to accommodate all her pet doctors.. If it happens, DMC will become another Failed Hospital like BSSMU.

there is no explanation from authority why it is necessary to establish the second medical university of the country just 2 Km away from the first one... Everyone knows the open secret. No one wants to go to periphery and Hasina succumbed to the pressure of her partisan doctors...
The largest Hospital in Bangladesh Dhaka Medical College is the last hope for our poor patients as it delivers top class treatment to them for free.... Just pay a visit to the hospital, you will find thousands of patient. Even they are on floor, under the stair, beside the gate... Just 2 km away BSMMU goes without patient... If dmc becomes dmu, hospital authority will start taking fees from patients and they will have to die without treatment....You cant kill patients just because you want to accommodate your partisans..

Students of DMC will have less patients which will lead to less experience which they don't want. But they can't say anything because they are suppressed by powerful group of pro Gov students and doctors ...

Please raise your voice against this suicidal decision and save one of the greatest institutions of Bangladesh..

please raise your voice

. . .
Is it not good for your college. I think a university brings lots along with what you have now. You will have different subjects along with post grad courses.
I dont think Medical Hospital will have less patient but hope that the patient number should reduced to reasonable level and up to the number of beds which can be offered. Overwhelming patient may and will distract the attiontion of the students.

In the name of cheap politics Bangladesh is always been anti-development and those folks are paying the big price.

I thought colleges try hard to be University! :/

These colleges are like IIT in India. They are specialized in medical education. Nothing else. But I am always in favor of teaching students humanities along with their majors. We in engineering did that. But Medical colleges hardly offer any subject other than medicine. Thats why they are very bad in delivering service in Bangladesh.

.
How do you find time for politics in medical colleges?? I mean medicine is vast and extremely hard and I sincerely believe most students hardly get enough time for proper sleep leave alone politics..

.
While i agree with the part that politics shouldnt get involved with education institutions. However, isnt turing colleges into Uni a good thing :/ ???

yes, but they need to upgrade all the medical colleges to university at a time. The way they did for BIT.

.
i think they are doing better

as it will give dhaka medical college ka standard and
rest of the state colleges or whole bangladesh medical colleges can affiliate with that dhaka medical university

it is indeed a very great news for you.

In our Medical collages students research how to make a hand bomb , how to capture a hall . There is not enough efficient doctors in govt medical collages . Govt party drive away opposition doctors from important posts . As a result Medical collages are merit less . During BAL govt many famous & meritorious doctors resign their post due to demotion or harassment . Most of the prominent doctors joined in private medical collages .

Dhaka, Jan 17 (bdnews24.com) — The prime minister on Tuesday said the government is going to upgrade Bangladesh's oldest medical college in Dhaka to a university, the second in the country. "A decision has been taken to turn Dhaka Medical College into a university," Sheikh Hasina said while inaugurating the newly built academic building of Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College in the capital. The prime minister's comment came when Grade III and IV employees of the Dhaka Medical College and Hospital have already been demonstrating against the possible move and protests from present and former students of the top medical college raged on social networking site Facebook. But pro-government doctors have been demanding more medical universities for quite some time in indifferent forums. The prime minister said: "Some are protesting (against the move) due to their ignorance." "Similar protests were seen when we turned PG Hospital into Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University," she said. "But I did not hear anyone facing any difficulty later on." "Instead, people are getting modern treatment (from the university)," she claimed. The previous Hasina administration established the lone medical university in 1998. Experts on medical education, however, say the university has now become the epicenter of doctors' politics. Though the government cannot say why it needs to turn the premier medical college into a university, pro- government doctors' body Swadhinata Chikitshak Parisad on different occasions argued for more medical universities pointing to the fact that there are four agriculture universities. Health minister Dr A F M Ruhal Haque at different functions of Dhaka Medical College in 2011 had asked them to demand more medical universities. Mohammad Tanvir Jalal, a physician with the BSMMU, in his blog post said poor patients would suffer if government turns DMC into a university. "Treatment will become costlier as it happened in the case of BSMMU," he said in his blog post. A few professors, who wished not be named, told bdnews24.com that as pro-AWami League doctors were well- placed at Dhaka Medical College, it becoming a university would give them a permanent place in the tertiary hospital in the capital. It happened in the case of BSMMU, they said. They suggested quality assurance of medical colleges under a single autonomous authority could be a better option in Bangladesh where doctors had already earned a bad name for not staying at rural facilities. The prime minister on Tuesday's programme, however, once again warned the doctors of stringent actions if they dodge their duty. bdnews24.com
