Saudi Arabia ranked world’s third happiest country

They are stable economically. Follow sharia law (one should accept or not, but it does reduce the level of crimes in society). What else a society needs to be happy?

Larki, Irani will disagree on that :azn:

life is happy enjoy 5 days in sharia and 2 days in Dubai brain no visa no stop over just weekend take your car and drive  have a party and Saturday night come back home . whom will be sad then ?

Car with Card too :P dubai bara mehnga hai Imran bhai :(

Happiness does not relative to wealth as happiest country is Bhutan not Luxemburg or Qatar.
I have more money compared to a man who barely manage to save money after food, education & healthcare as I am more concerned regarding tax saving & sales tax hurdle in business.
When you are homeless and starving money is the most important thing in the world. The marginal utility of money goes down as you have more of it, after a certain point money becomes meaningless. I seriously think that if Saudis are happy ( and I am assuming they interviewed mostly the men folk) then it is because what went before - ie just one generation ago- was so much worse. It not mean their lives are better than those born in Luxemburg who have always had a similar standard of living.

Happiness is impossible to measure, stupid survey, each person measures it differently, is someone driving a Lamborghini happier than someone living in a tribe in Papua New Guinea, probably not but how do you know?

Ignorance can be one form of bliss.

They are NOT stable economically. A scant glance at their fiscal data will convince you that.

Aren't they? Saudi Arabia only has 25% of share in overall Arab GDP. Who doesn't know the profit they get with exporting oil? Come to their geographic locations, it provides them easy access to trading with Europe. It's ultimately expanding their domestic market. Saudi Arabia’s foreign trade totals US $ 78 billion. It is the world's 25th exporter / importer. They have established a sound regulatory and financial infrastructure based on financial standards and payment systems equivalent to those in major industrial countries. This has resulted in a strong banking sector that benefits from management expertise and the most sophisticated technologies. Up and down in economy is very common and I did not say they are economically the most stable state.

Folks might want to compare & contrast with the U.N.'s 2015 World Happiness Report, which also claims to be using Gallup poll data.
Thats far more believable but still its hard to really say what happiness is. The Scandinavian countries are generally at the top of any happiness and wellbeing tables, average life in Sweden, good paying job, safe country (apart from the immigrants), some of the best looking women in world, fantastic scenery, lots of culture and history, general peace and quiet with low crime (apart from the immigrants again) and a good place for anyone to grow up.

Saudi Arabia, hot desert with men and women segregated, lots of personal freedoms punishable by death, rich arabs throwing giant buildings up left right and centre trying to impress anyone whilst destroying the little history still there.

Happiness is relative, it depends on what people are used to...
In these studies it depends on the criteria chosen and how much weight they are given. KSA is #3 here, but the U.N. study (2012-2014 data) places KSA at #35, Columbia at #33, Israel at #11, and Pakistan at #81 - just ahead of Jordan - and Qatar, the UAE, and Oman all rank higher than KSA. Tunisia is just ahead of the Palestinian Territories, both of which are seen as happier places than Bangladesh or Iran or India.

Sweden has terrible weather and food, and they're taxed to oblivion, and is littered with hostile immigrants, and no you don't get to say "apart from the immigrants" they're part of Sweden and they are the price that they have to pay if they want to stay true to their ideals and acclaimed social superiority.

So all in all, it's a not that great. And evident by the high suicide rate and anti-depressant consumption in Sweden, I think that the Swedes share my opinion as well.

.
Colombia- probably chemical happiness.

Saudi - I'm sure the princes are quite happy.

I stopped believing in these stupid polls when according the UN Canada came up as one of the best places to live year after year. Can't be the best place if the people living in it are some of the most miserable, desensitized and aggressive bunch you will meet. At the end of the day, you will always have to use your own brain....
