Saudi Arabia joins International Maritime Security Construct

September 18, 2019

RIYADH: The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has joined the International Maritime Security Construct, a source from the Ministry of Defense said on Wednesday.

The US-led coalition, which includes Australia, Bahrain, and the UK, aims to protect commercial ships and provide safe navigation.

The International Maritime Security Construct area of operation covers Strait of Hormuz, Bab al-Mandab, Sea of Oman and Arabian Gulf.

The Kingdom’s move comes in support of regional and international efforts to deter and counter threats to maritime navigation and global trade, and ensure global energy security and the continued flow of energy supplies to the global economy.

The United Arab Emirates on Thursday joined an international maritime coalition to protect commercial ships amid heightened tensions with Iran.

"UAE's accession to the alliance comes in support of regional and international efforts to deter threats to maritime navigation and global trade, and in order to secure the flow of energy supplies to the global economy and contribute to the maintenance of international peace and security," news agency WAM reported citing a statement from the Foreign Ministry.

The coalition will provide safe navigation to ships in the Strait of Hormuz, Bab al-Mandab, Sea of Oman and Gulf of Arabia

UAE's move came a day after its close ally, Saudi Arabia made the same decision.

The idea of establishing maritime coalition was first discussed by the U.S. Marine Corps General, Joseph Dunford in July after two oil tankers were attacked at the strategic Strait of Hormuz. The U.S. held Iran responsible for the attacks, an accusation denied by Tehran.

They will either not enter or act ready to fight IN the Persian gulf. Even if they do, only US will.
Saudi is pressuring UAE real hard. It’s only a matter of time until UAE completely distances itself from Saudi. They know standing behind Saudi is eventually going cause nothing but trouble for them. Qatar accepted this and played their cards correctly. It’s only a matter of time until UAE follows. Al saud family can hide behind US and pump their chest as much as they want. Reality is that US will never fight a war they know they are going to lose. And certainly not for Arabs. Saudi’s best bet is to leave US and become a Russian vassal state while hoping Russia will abandon Iran favoring relations with Saudi, which is IMO something Russia would never do.

Mark my words. US hegemony is soon going to end together with Al Saud family.

If US goes to war with Iran, they will lose all their bases in ME to China. They won’t risk it.

US have tried for 40 years to cause regime change in Iran. It didn’t work, it won’t work. Now their only bet is to distance itself from Arabs and normalize relations with Iran. But Iran will never trust US. Iran is the only country in the region capable of helping US maintain its power in ME. But US lost Iran when they kicked out the Shah.

If I were US. I would kiss Turkeys ***, pressure the Europeans to accept Turkey into EU, arm them to their teeth and hope they will take on Iran eventually.
