Phagun Rishi, an alumna of The Lawrence School, Sanawar, carried forward the strong military tradition established by her school by getting commissioned as flying officer in the Indian Air Force.

Phagunwas commissioned in the defence services during a combined graduation parade at Dundigal, Hyderabad, recently.

She was among the 202 flight cadets who receive their first rank from Chief of the Air Staff NAK Browne at a grand ceremony held at the Air Force Academy Dundigal, Hyderabad.

Phagun is the first girl student from The Lawrence School to join the IAF.

Jubilant over her success, her mother Binita Rishi, who is a teacher at the school, and father Sanjay Sharma, an officer with National Insurance Company, said the strong military traditions of Sanawar went a long way in inspiring Phagun to join the forces.

Second Lt Arun Kheterpal, a Sanawarian and the youngest Param Vir Chakra (PVC) recipient of the Indian Army, has been a role model for many young Sanawarians like her.

Phagun hopes that more girls from the region will join her in serving the nation.
