I find it quite ironic that people from India complain about Saudi arabia spending too much money on arms while their own country is spending over 100 billion dollars on a period of 5 years on arms even when millions of their country men go to bed hungry every night.

Millions of kids suffer from malnutrition , women have a high rate of infant mortality. why dont these indian folks ask their govt "why" ?

Coming back to topic - Suadi Arabia has expansion plans for its Army which is why they are buying Leopard2e and there is no source that says that they are preparing for war.
Even if they are i guess its every country's obligation to its people to have a strong military.

They have money and none of their people sleep hungry - so they have every right to spend as much money as they feel necessary on arms , this is how simple it gets.

It all depends of something called "Threat Perception" dear.

India has contentious border disputes with the largest army and one of the largest militaries (China) on the Eastern Front and a six-decade old,4 wars strong border dispute with an arch-rival on the West. And both the countries are nuclear-armed.

So what threat perception KSA has.??

Oman,Yemen,UAE,Bahrain,Qatar,Syria - Nahhh......Turkey - Nahhh......Iraq - Nahhhh. Israel - Not a chance. The only name that comes to mind is Iran and is that threat as credible as to warrant these much purchases and especially since Uncle Sam maintains a round-the-clock vigil on the oil lands of KSA ??

True..but you dont have to spend for the heck of it.If there is so much money they can help so many Mulsim nations that are in dire need of finance.

Why does everything have to be about war and OCCUPYING?!! What makes you think these weapons are being acquired to only wage a war against another country? Have you considered the fact that these weapons could be being bought to actually stop going into a potential war - as it would be more unlikely for a country to wage a war against another country that already has substantial weapons to defend itself than one that doesnt!!!

I know some of you are throwing the arguement that a country should not have alot of weapons if it has no current threats - but why should a country wait for a potential threat!!! Saudis can be buying the arms to actually stop being in situations where they face potential threats!!

As we know from history, alot of the times a country has no weapons to defend itself as 'it does not need them' due to no current threats from anyone... but all of a sudden something changes and before you know it, it is occupied by another country and is unable to defend itself and do nothing about it!
So, the "Threat Perception" argument in this case is absolutely lame in my opinion...

and before you say its for defense then Saudi is defended by America and France, so i doubt the saudi are worried about iran attacking them because iran wont just attack another country its not their policy, they will attack when attacked.
