Sacramento Police Release Footage of Fatal Shooting of Unarmed Black Man (VIDEO)

22.03.2018

The Sacramento Police Department released multiple videos Wednesday night that showed the moment Stephon Clark, an unarmed black man, was gunned down in his grandparents' backyard March 18.

Footage includes two bodycam videos belonging to the responding officers and one video from the Sacramento Sheriff's Department's helicopter. The two audio files released consisted of a 911 call made to the department's communication center by a caller reporting someone breaking car windows and dispatch radio traffic of the shooting incident, according to a press release that the police department also published on Wednesday.

The helicopter recording begins with operators zeroing in on a person running through a backyard and onto the property of Sequita and Tommy Thompson, Clark's grandparents. After officers were directed to the Thompson's backyard, Clark, who was standing outside with his girlfriend's phone, was shot within seconds.

"Show me your hands… gun," an officer is recorded saying in bodycam footage. "Show me your hands… gun, gun, gun."

"He's still down, he's not moving… can't see the gun," he added.

A total of six seconds pass from the time officers first turned toward the backyard to when the first of 20 bullets were fired at Clark. Officers never found any weapon. They did, however, find a cellphone.

The second bodycam video offers a different vantage point and shows a responder turning Clark's lifeless body around and placing handcuffs on him. Someone can also be heard saying "f**k" twice while Clark's body is being examined.

Clark was pronounced dead at the scene.

"What did he have on him?" an officer coming onto the scene asked. One of the two officers involved in the shooting responded by stating that Clark was holding "something in his hands that looked like a gun from our perspective."

Since the shooting, both responding officers have been placed on administrative leave pending an investigation.

"The Sacramento Police Department (SPD) recognizes the significance of this incident and the impact it has on our community," the department said in the statement accompanying the video release. "We are committed to providing timely information and communicating openly with our community."

Speaking to the Sacramento Bee, Saquoia Durham, Clark's aunt, told the outlet that the shooting could have easily been avoided if officers had given Clark a chance to speak or even put his hands up.

"As soon as they did the command, they started shooting. They said 'put your hands up, gun' and then they just let loose on my nephew," Durham told the publication. "They didn't give him a chance to put his hands up or anything, and then when they shot him down, they knew they messed up."

Clark's family has since started a GoFundMe page to pay for funeral expenses. The campaign, which was launched on Monday, has accrued $33,048 of its $50,000 goal.

Various protests organized by the non-profit Sacramento Area Congregations Together and the local Black Lives Matter chapter are scheduled to take place Thursday before a candlelight vigil on Friday.

Clark, a father to two young children aged one and three, was just 22 years old when he was gunned down in his grandparents' backyard.

Video of Alton Sterling shooting.

Alton Sterling was a convicted felon and a registered sex offender of young children with an illegal gun in his pocket. He wasn't going to go back to jail easily.

You can see them grabbing his illegal gun at the 1:41 mark.
As a repeat offender being caught with that gun meant he would be considered a "habitual offender" or a "career criminal" and would be sent back to serve a very long prison term.

This is a LEGIT SHOOT. That is probably the reason why the Police Department release the footage so early after the incident. That indicated the shooting will not be investigated or had already been, otherwise they (Sacramento PD) will not release footage if they were going to use it in court. That is just common sense.

Another common sense is the screen grab in the released video, it clearly show the purported threat aimed at the police officer from Clark at 3:02 and 3:04, let me show you the picture.

At 3:02, you clearly see Clark turn around AFTER RUNNING AWAY FROM the officer, and something Shiny is "pointing" to the officer, look at the feed from officer 2

Stephon Clark 2.jpg

That is when I assume that officer 2 yell out Gun! (You can also look at the instant subtitle)

At 3:04, you can clearly see from the police chopper infrared image overhead and you can see Clark have his hand stretched

The fact that he is unarmed is an "After-the-fact" which mean at that point the cop don't know he is indeed unarmed. And the fact that he is in his grandma backyard is also "after-the-fact" I doubt the police know who they are looking for, let alone who his grand parent is, and the fact that the police chopper caught him peek into his grandparent car is an suspicious act, I don't go thru by backyard to my granny home and peek inside my granny car, do you? So the call to pursuit is also legitimate.

Police don't need actual threat to shoot you, they only need perceived threat, and both he turn around and raise his hand is a valid perceived threat.

This post is not for you by the way, this post is for informed audience, I don't really care for your anti-US biased.

In China police have no freedom to shoot unarmed black men like that.

Also no freedom to cuff the corpse and put on a show pretending to handle a "dangerous" individual.

.
This guy was definitely armed and dangerous.
This shooting seems light.

He was not unarmed bro...
You can see the gun he was carrying clearly.

But then that is not China.

In China, we did not have the freedom to criticize the ruling regime and the dictator, does that mean it have to be the same standard in the US?

.
Every shooting is justified in the US. Every person is armed in the US.

Not our problem though. Let them shoot each other all day long.

In China you do have the right to criticize the government but never cross the line of your criticism crossed over to your intention with the support of 5th column to overthrow the Chinese government.

You are free to criticize anyone in this world be it you prepare to face the consequence, since I’m not a Chinese citizen whether or not Chinese can criticize their government none of my concern.

You do know the first line you said itself already mean you do not have the freedom to criticize? I can openly criticize Donald Trump, Theresa May and Malcombe Turnbull, in fact, I did first the first and last, I still stand, not looking over my shoulder and thinking when will someone come knock at my door, can I say the same If I go back to China and criticize Xi? Mind you, I am a Chinese Citizen lol.
