Its ridiculous what goes on in peoples heads. The whites here say how they love my skin tone and then you have the darker people wishing they were white. The grass is always greener on the other side

Always in moderate not to white not to Dark here we call it Sabzeh .
well here usually the preferred color is something between Type - 3 to type - 4 Fitzpatrick something like light Olive skin to dark and you are called Burned (سیاه سوخته) and too white then you are called Rice pudding (شیر برنج).

Totally support this decision. These skin whitening creams and their advertisements develop low self esteem in people with dark skin.
And of course those cream with a lot of different chemicals are so dangerous for the skin.

Those creams have some legitimate uses , but this move have some side effect , it increase the smuggling of the products and that lead to use of subpar products that are far too harmful for the skin. the correct approach was trying to fix it on cultural levels , working with local fashion industry and celebrities were a better approach

oh man ppl in germany try to get more darker skin like many other in the north.. and others elsewhere in sunny regions its the opposite.. would these ppl be happy if they would be born white? or would they find other things they would be not happy with..?

Focus should be on body building rather than skin whitening. For me, a toned body with shiny skin is way sexier than washed out white skin which is the look that those skin whitening creams give you.
