Or may be via Iridium satellites? They offer less than 1 kbps data transfer for free, i use iridium shield in my arduino drone to send control commands, waypoint informations etc and recieve battery info with out using any radio telemetry.

He say without set-link. And 1 kbps is not enough to handle a drone..................and more of than Iridium is for civilian use, information is not so secure through it.
