That reminds me of an American proposed spacecraft propulsion method called Nuclear Pulse Propulsion which used nuclear explosions to propel the craft. I quote from the Wikipedia page :

Imagine if the nuclear nations decided for peace and joint space exploration and extracted the nuclear fuel from their weapons and made it available to such spacecraft.

Interesting low cost approach, send a missile to lower space let it circle round the earth. NO wear and tear due to air friction, no fuel required to make it circle the earth, let gravity do it, an occasional solar charged motor would do course correct and when you want to fire someones as* point it towards them and enjoy the fireworks.

Human beings are short sighted, power hungry, greedy lot. Why there are countries? who has exploited sentiments of caste, creed, culture, sect.

If there were no armies, no countries, no politicians, no religious scum all the defense and other useless spending will rather be spend on research healthcare, science and space exploration, like star trek say, "Space the final frontier"

Was then outer space treaty (US and soviets/Russians agree not to weaponize space) voided when the US created Space force.
This Russians system sounds like the old “Rods From God” concept; tungsten rods in a satellite that can be released on an Unsuspecting target at any time.

Rods from God sounds better a Boeing X-37B with a space railgun aboard (there is no atmosphere in space, so a space railgun can be so much smaller than a Earth railgun), and that space war machine is travelling around Earth since one decade
