Russian and Ukrainian T80s performed much better than upgraded T72s and T90s. It should be noted that T90 has the same lineage at T72 but the T80 is a fundamentally different design. The Soviet Union and subsequently Russia did not follow-up on the T80 due to cost issue and instead developed the T90 derived from T72.
