Russian Su24 trolls USS Donald Cook

.

I can't even begin to tell you just how bullsh** the claim being made about this now old incident is... we've been over this before (I see two identical threads in the "similar threads" box at the bottom of the screen) so I'll keep my reply short:

Russia Claims Its Bomber Jammed U.S. Destroyer — War Is Boring — Medium

(it's a low quality source, but it does a better job explaining the situation than anything I've seen elsewhere)

Read the link, it will explain all that is wrong with what has been claimed by the Russians. :coffee:

*The really short way to dispel this rumor is that the SPY-1 on-board the Donald Cook (future block III Burke's will have the AMDR - 30 times more powerful then the SPY-1) puts out so much energy that it "burns through" jamming attempts... and it can see stealth aircraft.

simulated bombing runs? even when un-loaded, that's very provocative.

surprised they did that

There are a lot of sources which claim the Su-24 had jammed the USS Donald Cook and made 12 simulated bombing runs ... ..not one or two..but 12

I saw another thread after i had posted mine. I wanted to delete my thread but i don't know how. In any case why is one source more credible than the other?

What was this guy in SU-24 thinking or smoking? That knowing he was unarmed, the US will fire on it or shoot it down? Russia isn't at war with the US. Even if there was an AC close by, all it would do is to bring in a couple of USN jets who'd then escort the SU-24 back.

Btw, the US military never just use ONE primary system. Suppose if Aegis was jammed (highly unlikely, but theoretically speaking), there are other radars and CIWS that don't work with the Aegis radars. On slow passes those would've kicked in or the short range AAM's. But remember, this happened in the international waters and the SU was unarmed. That doesn't call out for anything. Heck we intercept Russian nuke bombers off of our Alaskan coast pretty regularly. This is still so far out by Russia. Doesn't make a difference.

If ever an armed conflict became a reality or even a chance of it, you won't see a USS Donald Cook alone. It'll be backed up by an AC or a close by ground support station, more than likely hosting the F-22's. Which when flying in a pair can take down an entire squadron of whatever SU series you may be in. And you can only try to duck when that happens!

And just like that you snuck in such a major claim.

Actually I believe its true. I befriended someone name Chris (who now works for a private protective services aka bodyguards) who served on the USS Cole, the same ship that got hit by Al Qaeda in Yemen. He told me what it can do. And one of them was detecting stealth aircraft.

your friend should of also told you stealth does not mean invisible..............

Its true.(correct me if I'm wrong) SPY-1 operates in the S-band which is getting into the high-frequency areas, higher frequency radars are known to detect stealth aircraft better than lower frequency radars because of the resonance effect. The nice thing about the S-band is that you can detect things pretty far away while also maintaining a weapons-quality track.

Plus the (V) upgrade gave software updates to reduce background clutter, which enhances the ability to detect LO targets.
AN/SPY Series Radars
