Russian investors soon to visit Karachi, Islamabad
Monday 8th November 2010
KARACHI: A Russian investment delegation will soon visit Karachi and Islamabad to review and explore investment opportunities in Pakistan.

This was stated here by Chief Executive Officer of Russian National Investment Agency, Mr Oleg Gorbulin, during a meeting with the officials of Sindh Board of Investment (SBI).

According to a statement of SBI issued on Sunday, the meeting was held at the Board’s office on Saturday afternoon and was chaired by Advisor to Sindh Chief Minister on Investment, Zubair Motiwala.

The Russian delegates expressed its interest to explore opportunities of investment, particularly in Sindh, in various sectors including gas mining, agriculture, livestock, engineering, and medicine.

They also sought special block for Russian investors in the Exclusive Economic Zones set up by the government in various parts of the country which provide special incentives to the investors.

Advisor Motiwala said that the provincial government could send a representative of SBI on temporary basis to Russia to give guidelines to the Russian investors about the investment opportunities in Pakistan.

In addition, he said that the office of SBI in Karachi could also play a good role to liaison with the Russians businessmen.

On the occasion, a brief documentary was also shown to the Russian team about prospectus of investment in various sectors of economy.

US making a high profile visit to India. Russia making a low profile visit to Pakistan.

Russia needs more markets, India was before mostly just trading with Russia, but now the US has interfered and I guess they're realizing their option to profit from Pakistan.

i'm personally in favour of cooperation in all listed sectors, except livestock

good good..this really a drastic shift from the previously led down policies.

I presume it is more a 'move' to hindustan than to Pakistan

(a 'reminder' of sorts)

What it has to do with Hindustan?? Where t comes here???? A Russian business delegation come in pakistan and you see a move against Hindustan. get rid of it.

Wonderful news!

as I clearly stated, it was a presumption....look at the timing of it, or is it a mere coincidence? :disagree:

I don't see it as a move against hindustan; i see it merely as a reminder that Russia is unhappy that hindustan is cozying up to the U.S. on the commercial --and more relevently --defence fronts.

Not a provocative move, more symbolic i think; though we have had reasonably friendly ties with (post USSR) Russia, no major irritants between us.

Not any co-incidence. India has much closer relationship with Russia than US. When US president was in India, Indian army helding joint anti-terror exercise with Russian army. Does that mean anything? Indian army and PLA doing joint exercise does it mean anything to Pakistan, no.

I don't see it as a move against hindustan; i see it merely as a reminder that Russia is unhappy that hindustan is cozying up to the U.S. on the commercial --and more relevently --defence fronts.

There is no question of being unhappy. India is still largest buyer of Russian weapons and number of defence and business deals will be signed during forthcoming visit.

Not a provocative move, more symbolic i think; though we have had reasonably friendly ties with (post USSR) Russia, no major irritants between us.

Not even symbolic because the next head of state to visit India is Russian president Dmitry Medvedev and some business delegation visiting pakistan has nothing to do with Hindustan.

People seeing too much,Russia like any other nation will seek to benefit from opportunities from wherever it can.

Though i like the OP point.

Zaki you are great..

I also hope there is some investment and trade in Pakistan, something which India also wants, but GOP is not giving any incentives.
Trade is healthy, trade is welcome. No terrorism

Somehow, I knew this conversation would move towards India even before I opened the thread, lol....

And for those of you think the Indo-Russian Alliance is being shaken by Obama's visit to India or this Russian "visit" to Pakistan, you are dead wrong. Our alliance has matured to the point where it is a 100% bilateral relationship, independent of each country's other obligations. This is what makes the Indo-Russian Alliance so strong, and this is how it is survived for over 40 years, as strong now as it was in 1971.

Improving economic and defence relations with Russia will be beneficial for both countries.

Bilateral trade with Russia to boost economic uplift

Karachi—The Consul General of Russia in Karachi, Mr. Andry D Demidov said that bilateral trade between Pakistan and Russia can pave the way for economic development for both the countries. Russia has suffered doe to the global turmoil but the economic situation has improved and Pakistan can gain advantage from the potentials in Russia. He said this in a dinner hosted by Mr. M. Farooq Afzal, Chairman Pakistan-Russia Business Council of FPCCI at a local hotel.

Mr. Tariq Sayeed, immediate past President SAARC CCI & former President FPCCI and the Chief Guest of the occassion Mr. Sultan Ahmed Chawla, President FPCCI, Mr. M. Farooq Afzal and Mr. Adnan Wahab made speeches while Mr. M. Mansha Churra, Mr. Zakaria Usman and Mr. Mumtaz Ali Sheikh, Vice Presidents FPCCI and Engr. M. A. Jabbar were also present on the occasion. The Consul General said that Pakistan and Russia shall exchange delegation and ideas on modern and technical lines which will benefit both the countries. He said that Pakistan instead of relying on US should improve its trade relations with neighbouring countries China, Afghanistan, India and Iran including Russia as Pakistan has not gain anything but infact it has badly effected the trade and economy of the country.

He added that Pakistan should change its foreign policy on emergent basis and should flourish the trade with neigbouring estates so that the benefits can be enjoyed by its masses which will end unemployment and poverty. He added that FPCCI will soon hold Single Country Exhibition in Russia which will introduce Pakistani products in the Russian market.

Mr. Sultan Ahmed Chawla, President FPCCI said that the bilateral trade between two countries shall benefit Russia. The trade challenges between the two countries can be addressed by economic and friendly ties and Pakistani exporters should try to market their potential product in Central Asian Markets.
