Corporation "Tactical Missiles" has begun research on the project of the hypersonic missile. About it as informs "Interfax", said chief designer Boris Obnosov Corporation. According to him, the new missile can reach a speed that will be 12-13 times the speed of sound. "Our challenge in the future - it is really the development of hypersonic missiles subjects. This year we are holding the first work in our facility in Dubna," - said Obnosov.

"I hope this idea will be nationwide, and we will present the project - the creation of hypersonic products" - added genkonstruktor concern TRV, without revealing further details of the new project. It should be noted that in the Soviet Union existed before the project a missile with a hypersonic ramjet engine. In the 1970s, was created a flying laboratory "cold" anti-aircraft missiles on the basis of C-200. During the flight test rocket was able to develop a speed of 5.2 Mach number (about six thousand miles per hour).

It is believed that at the present time this project was the development and its further development is called "Cold-2". Presumably, the work on the project is the Central Institute of Aviation Motors named Baranov. In particular, he is developing a hypersonic flying vehicle "The Needle".

In addition, the process of developing a hypersonic missile that can reach speeds of Mach six, is engaged in a joint Russian-Indian venture "BrahMos". Creating a new weapon is based on an existing supersonic missile "Brahmos", previously received the Air Force and Indian Army. At the heart of "BrahMos" is a Russian rocket, "Onyx."

Work on the creation of hypersonic missiles and aircraft are maintained in the United States. In particular, the company is developing a missile Boeing X-51A Waverider, a Lockheed Martin - FHTV-2.

BrahMos signs MoU for high speed aircraft and missiles tech
MOSCOW: Working on the hypersonic version of its supersonic cruise missile, BrahMos Aerospace on Tuesday signed an MoU with Russian aviation institutions to establish a centre of excellence for developing technology for high speed aircraft and missiles.

The MoU was inked here with the Moscow Aviation Institute (MAI) and NPO Mashinostroyeniya (NPOM) corporation on the first day of the MAKS, 2011 (Moscow air show), BrahMos officials said here.

The MoU was signed by BrahMos CEO A Sivathanu Pillai, A N Geraschenko, Rector of MAI and Chief of NPOM Corporation Alexander Leonov. "It will bring together best scientific minds to study the hypersonic technology which will eventually pave way for the advanced BrahMos-II missile system," they said.

I don't doubt that one bit. They're the best in terms of missile propulsion. Vibs, are you thinking what I am thinking? :azn:
