In Russia works on creation of hypersonic cruise missiles for the Navy are conducted. About it as informs "Interfax", the general director of military-industrial corporation "NPO mechanical engineering" Alexander Leonov has declared.
"To speak about when all it will be embodied in metal, difficultly. But technically today I don't see obstacles that this direction has been realized this decade", - Leonov has told, having noticed that creation of rockets is provided by the state arms programme for 2011-2020.
The general director "NPO mechanical engineering" didn't name technical characteristics of developed rockets, however has noticed that the general tendency is directed on "increase in speed to a hypersoNIC", and also on increase in range of action. Besides, new rockets will be universal, capable to destroy the target both on a land, and on the sea. Besides, "universality from the point of view of used starting platforms when the rocket can be applied from the carrier of any type" is important.
Now, according to Leonov, to 80 percent of the cruise missiles accepted on arms of the Navy of Russia, are workings out "NPO mechanical engineering". In particular, rockets of manufacture NPO equip multi-purpose submarines, and on a nuclear rocket cruiser "Peter the Great" of the project 1144 "Sea eagle" are established ANTI SHIP rockets "Granite", on cruisers "Moscow" and "Varangian" of the project of 1164 "Atlant" - "Basalt".
