The Fall | The Collapse Of Avdiivka Is Inevitable. Military Summary And Analysis For 2023.11.10

Countries should learn from this war, its how modern grinding war looks like. There is a serious need to counter fpv artillery combo and kamikaze drones and it needs to be cheaper as well.
Jamming needs to be continiously developed but it is a backup temporary solution as counter measures develop in a similar speed. Jamming is also a radio source and once it is detected it can be taken out by mortar artillery etc especially if it is a static ecm vehicle. Russia uses cheaper Orlan drones for jamming which gives them a dynamic jamming source option but still we see Ukranian fpv drone footage so it is a necessary and continious race and a backup solution.

Currently passive means exist like change of tactics prefering more concealment-stealth with smaller groups rather than heavy buildup and straight charging from open areas. Residential areas-dense tree lines have concealment advantage over plains. Tunnels are another measure that can be used in these areas for supplies and movement but it takes time to construct tunnels.

fpv drone artillery combo works best in open areas and they can hit long ranges if target is not moving or moving at a steady speed. It is an unguided shell that hits an estimaed position based on target speed and direction. For example if it takes 20-30 seconds to reach the target in 20km range an apc can make random stops and change directions every 10 seconds so a direct hit wont happen on the vehicle. Infantry can be taken out by anti personnel or cluster ammunition so it wont work. Infantry at those ranges can use armored apcs or unarmored but faster atvs-quad biles with random changes in speed direction to make more distance from incoming artillery shells and reach residential areas tree lines or long tenches where they can conceal themselves.

changing speed and direction against fpv-artillery is similar to ww2 bomber evasion tactics against unguided estimated aa fire like in this documentary.

Grenade dropping fpv drones is another issue. Detecting them is difficult. Since they are small they carry small grenades that can be bounced away by a cheap fish-net however. A roped-plastic flexible dense net angled 30 degrees can deflect the grenade bouncing it away in my opinion. The net can be folded and carried by infantry and it can be hanged over fox holes or vehicles against grenades. If the fish net is hanged like a pyramid shape covering all top area with its sides it can both deflect dropping grenades and trap ramming kamikaze quad copter drones.

we can learn tanks are easy preys against drones. this war is a drone war.
NATO military doctrine seems no longer working as seen with Ukraine failed offensive against Russia.
the german army (Bundeswehr) develops a new concept away from "Gefecht der verbundenen Waffen" (combined arms operations) to "hochintensives Gefecht" (high intensity combat).

Jamming is usually power intensive and as u said is itself a radio source and can be taken out. I think the concealment era is over, we see footage of Ukraine pummeling russians in dense trees. Due to drones and high quality cameras, concealment is not useful anymore, even decoys are detected. Also there are guided shells now and u cant runaway from those. Even the unguided ones are effective on roads, u cant do much on paved roads.
I think the solution is to develop some kind of optical detection mechanism for small drones and kamikaze drones and then have cheaper ways to bring them down. Something like sophisticated AA guns, laser guns and cheap short range AA missiles.
I think every unit needs an optical detection mobile system and anti drone system with it.

the first batch of F16s have landed in Romania. Ukraine pilots practising bomb runs. previosly those Ukraine pilots had been trained in the US. I would not be surprised if the F16s drop bombs on the Kerch during christmas days. the russians on the eastern front will unfortunately miss christmas gifts sent from home.

and I don't doubt these poorly trained fighter will be blown out of the sky in less than one month.
it take years for a fighter to learn its airplane , what it can do and what is its capabilities .
if you think you can teach that to Ukrainian pilots in 5-6 month you are in for a big surprise

Guided shells to hit moving targets are laser guided ones like krasnopol. Smaller quadcopter drones dont have the capability to laser designate targets but slightly larger ones(fixed wing glider types) as you said can laser paint the moving target and the vehicle has no choice other than detecting it and blocking its vision or destroying the drone. Paved roads are predictable as you said and there are a lot of footage of slow moving tanks, apcs effectively targeted by artillery. Rapid maneuvering can only work in long distance like 15-20km on quad copter fpv coordinated unguided projectiles but still a large portion of drone-artillery combination is currently this option. Gps only rounds like Excalibur can change course in midflight by getting update from fpv drone that is another threat as well but wont be as effective as laser guidance. As guided projectiles are widely equipped it wont work as much unless laser pointer drones are detected and neutralized by the vehicles.

Concealment somewhat barely holds as we see the Russians can't target the Ukranian troops with artillery effectively concealed in Avdiivka and Ukraninans can't target the residential areas in Kherson, Bakhmut and Robotyne effectively. But fpv drones help and once the location is found out there is not much to do by the soldiers in buildings. That is why fortified positions need tunnels connecting buildings under the surface in my opinion so a building can be designated from above seeing soldiers entering it and taken out but actually another building connected with a short tunnel would be the hideout of the soldiers.

Radar would be too expensive to track the drones and once the vehicle is lost expensive equipment that can detect very small targets is lost as well. Lidar can in short range cheaply and effectively detect drones if current systems are improved slightly. Vehicles can carry heavier lidars that can track and target drones and soldiers can carry cheaper versions for early warning and resort to optics to target them with shotguns or anti drone-jammer rifles, interceptor drones and similar.

lets wait. I don´t think so. where is russia aviation? where is russia blacksea fleet? they both are finished.
Putin can´t stop Ukraine grains sea exports. Russians since a while don´t fly strategic bombers.
95% of russia´s land forces are deployed. what can they do more? more suicide missions with more prison inmates hooligans and rapists? Putin will resort to more hidden mobilizattions.
not 6. Ukraine F16 pilots are given 6 months in the US, 6 months in Romania.
