President Putin says ‘unfriendly countries’ must switch to its currency by March 31

Russian President Vladimir Putin has authorized the government, the central bank, and Gazprombank to take the necessary steps to switch all payments for Russian natural gas from “unfriendly states” to rubles starting March 31.

The measure targets “member states of the EU and other countries that have introduced restrictions against citizens of the Russian Federation and Russian legal entities,” the mandate published on the Kremlin website reads.

Russia will stop shipping natural gas to countries refusing to settle payments in rubles, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said on Monday.

If Russia cannot use Euro, Russia will not send their gas and oil to Europe, they will stop the gas and oil being exported to Europe.

Russia industry will keep running while Europe cant, any way maybe this event will make Russia revamp their industry and not rely too much on oil and gas for their future economy.

Russia couldn't revamp their industry in the last 200 years, people who talk about Russia like some sort of a technological or industrial power house are clueless. Every thing it has comes via Western technology, it was true for the Soviets....see their industrialisation in the 20's via the US and German help, it was true for Peter the Great bringing European tech and artisans to modernise Russia and it is painfully true for today's Russia.
If they don't sell gas Europe will be hurt but it will survive just fine,Russia will cease to exist, their whole gas/oil industry will dissappear as they don't have enough storage facilities, and if you don't pump out gas and oil you loose the workers, the machines ,the Industry...the whole economy.
