What else ?

The great part is that you won't decide, we Afghans will. Noor Taraki, Babrak Karmal, Najibullah, and Ashraf Ghani will end up in our history like Shah Shuja Durrani did. We are tired of puppets, we are tired of foreign armies within our soil, and we are tired of those who can't stay in power without the support of outside armies.

What about Progressive movements like Solidarity Party of Afghanistan ? Will you take their inputs in any near-future independent Afghan government ? What will be the status of the Taliban in the near-future ?

You must understand that religion is way too important for us, taking away religion from us is like taking a fish away from water. Any form of government in Afghanistan that has "democracy", "socialism", or any type of system that doesn't have an Islamic construct will fail.

As much as it may pain you to hear this, but we want Islam, and we want it not only implemented in our daily lives but also in politics, business, and in every sphere of our lives. We want to have what Iran has, but unlike Iran the people want democracy, whereas in Afghanistan we want Islam, but have democracy, the sad irony.

1. So have Islam then. It was mostly Islam in Nasser's Egypt, in Gaddafi's Libya, in Saddam's Iraq ( though I disagree with some of his actions ), in PLO's Palestine, in the Syria of Assads etc. And I don't think Afghanistan in the 80s had an anti-Islam tilt.

2. When you say "we" are you not excluding the thousands of Afghanis who would neither want a West-tolerated theocracy nor a West-tolerated "democracy" ? How can you ignore these thousands of voices ?

So you have understood rightly about Iran. The common people there seem to be tired of the theocratic government. Maybe they want the mullahs as guides on the side but I think they would prefer the mullahs to not directly rule them.

I don't think its possible, it may be possible for any other country even perhaps Pakistan, but not for Afghanistan. What we want is the laws of Allah and the Sunnah of Rasool'Allah (PBUH) to be implemented through and through, socialism does not promise that, and actually goes against Islam (different topic).

And it's true that there are some Afghans who don't want an Islamic system, those people are the minority, a vast majority of Afghans have no issue with an Islamic system.

I understand what you are trying to say, but many Afghans wouldn't even entertain this kind of a discussion. The moment they find out that Sharia law is out of the equation, all doors will be shut and they will reject it. The bottom line is, we had a negative experience with Communism (1979-1989) a negative experience with democracy (2001-present) and we feel foreign imposed ideologues have caused us unrest, which is why at this juncture, anything but Islam will not be accepted, perhaps this is hard for you to understand as I suspect you are an elder gentleman, but travel to Afghanistan once and you will see this for yourself.
