Says Heart of Asia Conference shouldn’t be used for point scoring; if Russia doesn’t complain about India-US cooperation, then why complain about Pak-Russia cooperation

AMRITSAR: Russia on Sunday lauded Pakistan's stance at the Heart of Asia conference and said the agenda of the conference has not been hijacked.

Addressing the Heart of Asia Conference in Amritsar on Sunday, Russian envoy Zamir Kabulov rejected the Indian and Afghan criticism on Pakistan and said that Sartaj Aziz's speech at the conference was friendly and constructive. He said it is wrong to criticise Pakistan.

The Russian envoy said that Afghanistan is the pivot of Heart of Asia conference and the agenda of the conference has not been hijacked. He said being friends and supporters, we should avoid the blame game and work together. He said all parties involved in the war-torn country's reconstruction must work together and that the Heart of Asia was not the platform for India and Pakistan to score brownie points.

Downplaying Russia's military exercise with Pakistan held two months ago, Zamir Kabulov, who overseas Russia's engagement in Afghanistan, referred to India's increasing cooperation with the US.

“The HoA should not be used by India and Pakistan for scoring points,” he told reporters. He said bilateral issues should not cloud forums like the Heart of Asia.

Kabulov represented Russia in the Heart of Asia conference where he articulated Moscow's position on Afghanistan's transition. He said all the major players must extend all possible support to Afghanistan in its transition.

“India has close cooperation with the US, does Moscow complain? Then why complain about much lower level of cooperation with Pakistan,” he asked when referred to the Russia-Pakistan military exercise.

India has a strategic partnership with Afghanistan and is implementing projects worth $2 billion to help rebuild the country's infrastructure. The Heart of Asia-Istanbul Process was launched in 2011 and the participating countries include Pakistan, Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, China, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Tajikistan, Turkey, Turkmenistan and the United Arab Emirates.

Russia has craftily pointed out to india the cost of india's nexus with the US. Of course india doesn't have any reply to the question asked by the Russian representative. This is how stern messages are sometimes diplomatically conveyed to those who like to bury their heads like an ostrich.

LOL, India doesn't need Russia more than the Russian's need us. We are the most important customer of Russian defense complex, if they really care about customer satisfaction good for them, else we can get whatever we wan't from others since we can afford them.

It will be the Russian's who will loose their most valued customer. I don't think they are dumb enough to dump India just to please any other country. :p:

We'll try to convey your message to your Russian friends but I'm not sure if it is going to scare them.

Actually India don't have to do much. Just give them a message that we are not interested in the following deals anymore will be more than enough for bringing them to their senses. LOL :-)

An already ailing Russian economy can't afford to loose such big a deal, else they will have to depend upon some of their new found friends to make up the loss. :p:

Now fun aside. The current Russian stance is nothing but neutral. What I understand is that they are just doing a balancing act wherein they don't wish to take sides. But Indo-Russian relationship will be the same as it existed for the 70 years and I see some improved Ruso-Pak relationship as well. :)

AMRITSAR: Russia is not strengthening ties with Pakistan at India’s cost and it has explained its position to India at the highest level, senior Russian diplomat and President Vladimir Putin’s envoy to Afghanistan
Zamir Kabulov said on Sunday.
“Russia has a different history with Pakistan. We are trying to explore cooperation with Pakistan primarily to counter terror. But Russia’s ties with Pakistan will not be at the cost of our special and privileged strategic partnership with India. This has been explained by our highest leadership to India’s topmost leadership,” Kabulov told ET on the sidelines of the
Heart of Asia meet in Amritsar.
Kabulov was leading the Russian delegation at the Heart of Asia meet, where Russia is one of the 14 stakeholders. He was answering a question on Russia’s emerging ties with Pakistan and recent reports of Pakistan’s “secret talks” with Russia on the use of Gwadar Port and joining China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), which were denied by Russia’s foreign ministry. “I myself drafted that rebuff. I am also in charge of South Asia desk in theRussian foreign ministry and I am not aware of it. I do not know from where the suggestion to use either Gwadar or CPEC emerged. There is no such proposal,” Kabulov said.
Kabulov said, “Russia-Pakistan military ties are commercial in nature. With India our military partnership is deep and we offer long credit to India for acquiring military supplies. Therefore the nature of two relationships is different.” Kabulov, an old Afghanistan hand, stressed that Islamic State or Daesh is emerging as the main terrorist group not only in Afghanistan but across regions and suggested that India should remain cautious against this threat.

Mark my words, Indo-Russian relationship will remain the same as it was for the last 70 years. If you think Russia will ditch India for Pakistan, it's ain't gonna happen anytime soon buddy. :)
