Iran’s allies are mulling limitations on Revolutionary Guard activity in Syrian territory, and may have already begun blocking Iranian access to military facilities in the hopes of avoiding future confrontations with Israel.

Russia’s Foreign Minister, Sergey Lavrov, suggested Monday afternoon that his country would accept Israel’s demand that Iranian forces not occupy positions close to the Israeli border.

According to Russia’s RIA outlet, Lavrov said during a news conference in Moscow that only Syrian forces should be deployed along Syria’s southern border, suggesting the Putin government is prepared to back Israeli demands that Iranian and Iranian-backed forces be kept away from the Israeli frontier.

“Of course, the withdrawal of all non-Syrian forces must be carried out on a mutual basis, this should be a two-way street,” Lavrov added.

“The result of this work which should continue and is continuing should be a situation when representatives of the Syrian Arab Republic’s army stand at Syria’s border with Israel.”

On Sunday, the Haaretz daily reported that the Kremlin is considering the possibility of requiring that Tehran remove its forces from Israel’s northern border, and limit its deployment of military assets in Syria to areas at least 37 miles from the Israeli frontier.

According to the report, Russian officials are prepared to pressure Iran to pull back its forces away from Israel’s border as part of talks with Israeli officials in the hopes of avoiding confrontations between its military and Israel’s, and to shield the Assad regime from a possibly destabilizing war with the Jewish state.

Lebanese sources claim that Israeli and Russian fighter jets were involved in an “incident” over the skies of Lebanon early Monday morning, Channel 2 reported.

According to Lebanese media outlets, Israel Air Force jets were met by Russian Su-34 fighters over Lebanon and were forced to return to Israeli airspace. The IDF has refused to confirm the report.

Russian forces stationed in Syria reportedly scrambled the jets in an attempt to block IAF activity in the area.

Israel recently vowed to take action against Iranian weapon transfers in Syria and Lebanon, as well as the manufacture of missiles in Iranian-affiliated facilities in Lebanon.

While Russian officials mull limits on Iranian deployments near the Israeli border, sources within Syria claim that the Assad regime has already imposed its own limitations on Iranian access to Syrian military facilities, following a series of targeted strikes on sites used by Iran’s Revolutionary Guard in Syria.

The anti-Assad Zaman al-Wasl outlet reported Monday that in light of recent Israeli military actions against Iranian forces operating out of Syria, the Assad regime has removed Iranian-aligned forces from some of its bases and barred Iran from massing arms at Syrian facilities.

Iran is so uppity does not have diplomatic relation with Israel. Iran thinks it's the new Persian empire or something. Typical Aryans.

Is this true? Can someone confirm?

Russia says nothing while the ziorats bombs Syria over and over and they refuse to give Syria s300s. If I was Syria I would be very suspicious of Russia. Whats the point of having a Russian naval base at Tartus and the air base in Latakia if they can't stop a foreign country bombing its 'ally'? Russia should stfu.

As far as Iran is concerned, Syria should welcome them and let them stay wherever they want, especially near the ziorats. For every action there is an equal but opposite reaction. The ziorats supported the overthrow of Assad and have bombed his troops dozens of times, so now they should live with the new Syria they helped create. One that has Iranian/Shiites right next to them on two fronts whereas before there was only one.. If Assad listens to anything these slimey ziorats have to say then he is the biggest cuck ever. Maybe later he can make a deal with the ziorats to evacuate the Iranians in exchange for Golan. In the meantime I hope Iran is digging in and making life very uncomfortable for the ziorats.

.
Russia fears wider conflict.russia is in Syria just for some cheap stunt.it will never engage allied armed forces.this backstabbing from Russia was expected.iran should pack it's stuff and go back because Russia is not going to save iran.israel destroyed entire Iranian infrastructure but Russian didn't interfere.russians aren't in a position to fight someone.they are there to protect Assad.

.
What's the point of having all those sacrifices made by Iran if she couldn't amass her forces in syria wherever required, and is there any assurance from israel of not attacking iranian and allied forces in syria in future? Iran should think of having better strategic positions for effective retaliation against any possible attack from israel against their forces in future.

The reality of our time is that the Israelis and the Americans CAN NOT be attacked or messed with. The Russians did try to assert themselves in the Deir Az Zour area and got their behinds handed to them by the American forces. After that whole fiasco, you'll notice how the Russians almost stopped all their rhetoric and keeping their heads down. The Israelis are extremely emboldened due to the strong US presence in Syria and the outcome of the above engagement in Deir Az Zour area.

Similarly, the Syrians and the Iranians also tried test the Israeli response and competence by firing a few rockets. In my honest opinion I believe that the Israelis came out on the top and did inflict some thought provoking damage that prompted have prompted the resistance axis to back down.

There is no other option but to wait out these things and do what can be done to the best of our abilities. The second option is a full fledged war which will most definitely end up in mass casualties, utter destruction and use of nukes. Russia and Iran don't have the stomach for that as they'll lose much more than the Americans.

Everything should have balance. If the Russians can't provide it then someone else should. You can't expect Syria to be perpetually at the mercy of the ziorats. Iran's presence is a balanve that really worries them.

In order to provide balance Iran has to "weigh" same as the opposing side. I believe that at the moment Iran is trying to save it's skin. It's in survival mode. Entertaining the notion that somehow Iran weighs equal to the might of the US and Israelis is just simply ideological/emotional talk because that's not the reality.

At the same time, there's no doubt that the Iranians and the Russians have managed to more than frustrate the absolute US/Israeli designs for the region. But there's a limit to what can be achieved against such powers if you're not at technological and resource parity with them.

I don't think that technological or military parity is necessary to provide balance. All that is required is to convince the other side the prohibitive costs of escalation.

Hmmm, I will shall respectfully disagree.

All that is required is to convince the other side the prohibitive costs of escalation.

That's correct. However, at the same time, the side which is "convincing the opposing faction of prohibitive costs of escalation" has to bear the same for themselves as well. For instance, the Israelis and the Americans started by bombing raids against the SAA and Iranian forces in Syria. Syria and Iran thought they would retaliate and warn the Israelis of consequences by launching rockets at their positions in Golan. What happened next? The prohibitive costs of escalations was far more expensive for the resistance axis which prompted them to back off immediately. Similarly the Russians faced the same fate once they had their share of direct confrontation against the Americans in Eastern Syria.

Iranians and Israelis are in a MAD (Mutually Assured Destruction) scenario if there's a proper all out war. Iran will lose almost everything at the cost of destroying Israel while the Americans will remain. When you start out to destroy or conquer someone, you at least make sure that you'll survive to enjoy the fruits of your victory. Otherwise there is no point.

Your comments of Russia “getting its asses handed” in Deir-Ez Zoir is nonesense that had been debunked long ago. Those were mercenaries and Washington said Russia never even coordinated with them. The majority of the dead were also Syria not Russian, only a handfuls of dead were Russian citizens, like no more then 15. The US funds many groups in Syria that fight for US interests, I guess the US has gotten its asses handed to them too when Russia has bombed US proxy forces for 3 years.

As for some of the nonsense comments involving “back stabbing”. Having dialogues, working out beneficial deals and not being completely stupid is not back stabbing. Iran launched drones into Israel from the same base Russian soldiers were stationed. Iran has andagered Russian lives, and Russia has acted wisely to separate Iran and Israel for everyone’s benifit....but yea back stabbing.

The Russians are using Iranian forces for protecting Russian interest in Syria. They don't mind Iranians getting bombed by the zionazis. Matte of fact, after successfully cosolidating her position in Syria, now Russia wants Iran out of Syria. Putin is too clever, he's never going to utter a single word about what he wants as far as Iran in Syria is concerned. Behind closed doors he'll just make 'mutually beneficial' deals with the zionazis. It's for the Iranians to decipher the message, nobody is going to do it for them.
