Moscow: Russia has officially unveiled fifth-generation fighter jet AK FA as the Su-57, Aerospace Force Commander-in-Chief Colonel General Viktor Bondarev said on Friday.

The Russian jet had been known as the (Prospective Airborne Complex of Frontline Aviation) PAK FA and T-50 during its development by aircraft maker Sukhoi.

Bondarev was quoted by Sputnik as saying that the decision is made, "The plane has been given its name, like a newborn child."
Su-57 is cheaper and its maximum cruising speed is reportedly 2,600 kilometers per hour, while its maximum altitude is 20 kilometers.

As earlier reported, the United Aircraft Corporation CEO Yuri Slyusar said, ''the pre-production batch will consist of 12 such aircraft. The experimental design work on the cutting-edge fighter jet should be completed in 2019 it will be delivered to the Russian Air Force at that time.''

The Su-57 is a single-seater jet with twin-engine multirole stealth fighter designed for air primacy and assault roles. It is equipped with advanced avionics system and airborne active phased array radar.

With six machines expected to be delivered into the Russian Aerospace Defense Forces in the fourth quarter of 2017.

Cheaper and worthless... even chinese fat lady seems better... IAF will choose it for kickbacks and russian maaal ;)

. . . .
How cheap? Some recent source cited $50 mil a piece which I find hard to believe. This beauty has to be at least $100-$120 million or even more.

India is, supposedly, planning to purchase 127 of these aircrafts at a cost of $135 million each.

That's more like it. Wow, that's a big contract, IAF is going to be packed pretty well, eesh.

Yes the deal would be around 15-20 Billion dollars but the program would be a 50-50 Joint venture between India & Russia on the lines of Brahmos with India owning and sharing the IP with Russia. India is investing 4-6 billion dollars into the design & development of this program.

And I'm glad that it seems they gave up on the idea of the FGFA being a 2-seater.
That JV is good for others who want to get in on the acquisition of this fighter. It will help keep cost down and also free up Russian production lines. All around a good thing.

This is just initial contract. India is still pursuing India specific customizations which includes adding the second cockpit. In total, the IAF is looking to procure 166 single seater and 48 twin-seater versions of the aircraft.

lol wat demonetization when money directly goes straight to foreign accounts and the corrupt officers gets lifetime vip entry to moscow xxx clubs ;)

You do understand that IAF has been the biggest opposition for any Russian deals. They vociferously opposed MIG-29s for M2Ks and opposed Super Sukhois, FGFA & MIG-35s for RAFALEs.
