Russia names new fifth-generation fighter jet Su-57

This is just initial contract. India is still pursuing India specific customizations which includes adding the second cockpit. In total, the IAF is looking to procure 166 single seater and 48 twin-seater versions of the aircraft.

I was under the impression they canned the 2-seater? The more glass and more avionics the less stealthy it will be. TBH, doesn't make much sense but I would never presume to know more than the fellas @ HAL/IAF, for sure. Why do they want that version also?

To reduce unemployment. There are many people in India. And everyone is hungry.:P

thr r solid groomed officers by russians in IA...
Yes thr r honest officers also..

Every country works for their own interests including Russia. Have you ever wondered why an Indian Army chief should receive a medal from US?

but how one can justify plenty of so called tot deals which totally got busted by russians and still we import same stuff like T90... russians even didnt honor thr commitment to even provide TOT for T90 main gun a 80s tech... despite signing deals and again we will be importing 500 more T90?

Yet the ToT that India received from Soviets & Russia far exceeds what any other country has offered let alone delivered. Russia has delivered on leasing Nuke subs. There many places the tech has been delivered but is out of public domain for a good reason. Can any country offer the kind of ToT that India got on SU-30 manufacturing including on its engine? One can keep complaining but in spite of increased cost of acquiring Admiral Gorshkov, INS Vikramaditya is the lone operational carrier of IN today. IN cannot even use INS Jalashwa (Formerly USS Trenton) against Pakistan in spite of fully paying to acquire it. At least IN does not have to worry about such operational clauses limiting its with INS Vikramaditya.

IAF training and doctrine has a place for twin seater for certain missions. IAF sees value in pursuing this option even if it means giving up some stealth.

Note that even the $8.7 billion contract India signed with France in 2016 for 36 RAFALEs included 28 single-seat fighters and eight twin-seaters.
