Russia, India mull joint production of ammunition for Smerch rocket

By the end of this year, Russia and India are planning to set up a joint venture to produce ammunition for the Smerch multiple launch rocket system, Nikolai Makarovets, General Director of OAO NPO Splav, told Interfax-AVN news Agency.

He did not elaborate on the scope of the licence or the terms for offsetting up the joint venture.

Asked whether the company would assemble the Smerch rocket systems, Makarovets said that the joint venture would only deal with ammunition.

Previously, Rosoboronexport’s press service reported that Russia and India had signed a memorandum on setting up a joint venture to produce and provide after-sales service of ammunition for the Russian Smerch multiple rocket launchers. The company will be established in India.
