Russia Floats Out ‘Stealth’ Submarine for Black Sea Fleet

\

The Varshavyanka-class (Project 636) is an improved version of the Kilo-class submarines and features advanced stealth technology, extended combat range and the ability to strike land, surface and underwater targets.

-Turkish Navy with advanced surface and underwater fleets are the strongest in Blacksea so Russia is just building more assets to keep stability.

-At present, Turkish naval industry is building 16 coastal ASuW warship and 12 Milgem ASuW corvettes. Along with current submarine fleet, 6 New AIP submarines are also being manufactured by Istanbul Shipyard.

-6 ATR-72-600 AsuW aircraft and 9 ASW/AsuW CN-235 aircrafts are taken delivery in 2013 and Many other projects/subsystems/Torpedo defence technologies are proceeding/completed.

-Turkish domestic torpedos/anti-ship missiles are tested on Blacksea.

-Roketsan joined IDEAS missile program as risk-share partner which is going to be integrated on submarine fleets to engage strategic surface assets...

-The older radars of Turkish frigates (MEKO + Gabya) were replaced with Aselsan manufactured Smart-S surveillance radars. Gabya frigates are received 8 cell MK-41 VLS, While MEKO's are 16 cell MK-41 VLS.

Many more projects are proceeding...

Russian Blacksea fleet is mostly folowing developments of Turkey.

.
A St. Petersburg-based shipyard on Thursday floated out the first of six Varshavyanka-class diesel-electric submarines to be delivered to the Black Sea Fleet in the next two years.
So Russia is building 636 Imroved Kilo now and 677 Lada is ditched.

. . .
yeah we are getting 6 from now until 2016. Hopefully more later.

Lada work underway. Just there is an urgent need to increase the Black Sea fleet.

I never knew diesel-electric submarines can be stealthy!
:blink::blink::blink:

Apparently you haven't read the hunt for red october :D

Obviously nuclear propulsion is more noisy then diesel electric propulsion.

Submarine stealth = Low frequency noise.

Unlike the radar which are used to detect flying objects above or on the surface, Sonars are are used to detect underwater objects.

In care of radar, Lower the RCS of the object = lesser the chances of detection.

In case of sonar, Low frequency noise = lesser the chances of detection.

Ah, thanks! I just read the article below -

New Russian Submarines Are So Silent That The U.S. Navy Calls Them “Black Holes”

Russia has launched its new state-of-the-art Novorossiysk submarine, which set sail from a St Petersburg shipyard to become the first of six diesel-electric stealth subs delivered to the Russian Black Sea fleet in the next two years.

The Novorossiysk belongs to the Varshavyanka-class (Project 636), which is characterized by advanced stealth technology, making it virtually undetectable when submerged.

So yes, diesel electric subs can be super stealthy too! Thanks for the heads up! :enjoy:
