We all know that Russia and the U.S. are not on very warm terms. But if this is true, maybe we should all be a little more concerned as to what Russia is up to? While it may not pose a significant threat to Pakistan, but to be able to cut the world off almost completely is something rather terrifying. What do you think? The internet is responsible for $10 trillion in global business. All the communication networks rely on the internet. If Russia is capable of this, they could potentially win any war hands down.

The only solution for that is to engage and develop positive relations with Russia instead of playing puppets in the hands of west. If they corner Russia, and we remain silent or rather join them then Russia can do whatever it deems fit for its survival.

Could be anything really.. But it sure doesn't sound nice.

lol i bet you usa will do it blame Russia its USA that has been making noise about internet kill switch.

time to move towards off the grid communication/intranet.

Yup.. true.. USA seems to work like that quite a lot actually. Earlier USA blamed Russia air strikes for the death of Syrian civilians. It turns out, it was USA that was responsible after all. American is playing a dangerous game in Syria.. Plus, I don't think Russia should be meddled with. They have been off the grid for quite some time. Who knows what they've got up their sleeve.

What the sh!t I just read  and out of that 10 trillion $s business how much would have been generated in USA and what would be the benefit goes to other countries ??? even if they cut of that interconnectivity and if we calculate roughly then I believe 30% of that business may effect to rest of the world is that right then how could be Russians may not effected if this thing happens and in this economical crush I don't think so they may do any sh!t like that. 2nd thought comes to my mind is If this happens the India might go bankrupt because they are making at least 150 billion per year from IT industry and guess what ?? internet plays a huge roll in service industry specially in IT. All in all if anything happens like this the only country which may benefit from it is US of A!

This sounds like @Providence 's latest plan to prime the american public for WWIII.

LOL. Global internet connection is not your gaming lan which you might have set up in the garage. There are several L1 service providers each having multiple points of presence (POPs). You can't just cut one single bunch of submarine cables and claim that you disrupted internet across globe

Some one please tell me that one cable where can i put my scissor and put to rest the global internet connectivity

"This development and the fact that Russian submarines are currently in a very strategic position gives Russia a very prime position to win absolutely any war, and that would scare not just the U.S. but literally any nation that is looking to defend itself."
:blink::blink:Can somebody shed light on this part of news?

it's just horse shit. Check the submarine cable layout diagram I have posted above !

It IS the U.S. that's making a big deal out of it.. One stands to argue correctly that there can't just be a few cables connecting the world to the internet.. But then why would U.S. fuss over Russian subs hovering over 'blah' and 'blah' cables that are apparently responsible for 95% of the internet? It's all over the major media networks, this news.

It implies that if you get a hold of 95% of the world's communications, the war is yours... But it is pretty far-fetched... Should not be possible really..

That's why I still have my POTS system sitting in a box . BTW, the term POTS refers to "Plain Old Telephone Service", which was based on previous analogue systems before the internet.

Well that's great.. But communications, when a country is at war, do not simply refer to phone calls alone.. Besides I doubt that will help anyway.. At any rate.. there is no possible way one could simply destroy the internet network.. It's not just one cable, it's thousands of them.. and then there are backups.. US is going off her hinges for absolutely no reason.. I mean seriously, they shed a negative light on Russia and expect to shine... No no.. not going to happen.

Big deal. US military have this capability too.

USS Jimmy Carter 100 feet longer than other two Seawolf classes, it's special missions package includes electronic intelligence gear, special forces, and cable splicers, like this from Operation Ivy Bells.

Concern? Maybe, but not as if the US military isn't able to do this too. They have as much, if not more, experience influencing underwater cables are does Russia.

US military transitioning to smaller AUVs for such purposes, though they retain special missions submarine too.

And even if Russia cut the cables, they can and are regularly fixed too.

Not really a big problem. Bigger problem being tap-pods or splicing for intelligence purposes, not cut cables which can be fixed without much problems.
