Russia said it stands for "decisive struggle" against terrorism in all its manifestations.

NEW DELHI: Russia today said it expected Islamabad to take "effective" steps to stop the activities of terrorist groups in its territory as it voiced concern over "aggravation" of the situation along the Line of Control between India and Pakistan.

It also asked the two neighbours not to allow any escalation of tension and settle their disputes through negotiations.

In a statement, Russia said it stands for "decisive struggle" against terrorism in all its manifestations.

"We are concerned with the aggravation lately of the situation along the line of control between India and Pakistan.

"We are calling on the parties not to allow any escalation of tension and to settle the existing problems by political and diplomatic means through negotiations. We stand for decisive struggle against terrorism in all its manifestations.

"We expect that the Government of Pakistan should take effective steps in order to stop the activities of terrorist groups in the territory of the country," the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

The statement came amid heightened tension between India and Pakistan after the Indian Army carried out surgical strikes on seven terror launch pads across the LoC on the intervening night of September 28 and 29.

MOSCOW, September 30. /TASS/. Russia is concerned over the escalation of tension on the line of control between India and Pakistan and urges to prevent further aggravation of the situation, the Russian Foreign Ministry said on Friday.

"We’re concerned over the aggravation of the situation along the line of control between India and Pakistan," the ministry said.

"We’re urging the sides to prevent the escalation of tension and settle existing problems by political and diplomatic means through negotiations," it added.

The Russian Foreign Ministry reiterated that Russia stood for the decisive struggle against terrorism in all its manifestations.

"We expect the Pakistani government to take effective measures to counter the activity of terrorist groupings on the territory of that country," the ministry added.


As was reported earlier, confusing information is coming from Kashmir. New Delhi says several groups of Indian commandoes flew aboard helicopters 3 kilometers into the territory controlled by Pakistan overnight to Thursday to carry out "surgical strikes" against terrorist bases, destroying seven militant shelters and eliminating 30-35 extremists.

Pakistan has rejected the reports about India’s operations on its controlled territory, claiming that India conducted "unprovoked firing" across the line of control.

Islamabad has also reported about two Pakistani and eight Indian soldiers allegedly killed during the shootout and that an Indian serviceman was captured. New Delhi has dismissed the information that its servicemen were killed and said that one Indian soldier, indeed, erroneously crossed into the Pakistan-controlled territory.
