Russia and Pakistan Hold High level Meeting

. .
Air chief gave the thumbs up to our Typhoon bro.
Yeah I like EFT as 4.5 or 4.0++ gen fighter but money is the issue. If UK or consortium offers a good deal to Pakistan, things can go past window shopping and mere interest. One or two squadrons of this bird will be great . But I guess TFX will be the future course for PAF and it will UK too since Rolls Royce and BAE have been selected by TAE and TAI respectively.

Money is an issue, I'm sure the UK could work something out, but there needs to be solid Pakistani proposal and by the looks of it they are looking in other places. Mind you though this is for future fifth generation options and the EFT fills a nice gap for the PAF. PAF pilots also said the Typhoon handles like a dream .

I think this visit will lay a strong foundation for a strategic relations between the two great nations and it will be overt and conspicuous as Pakistan's establishment has decided to follow the geopolitcal shifts. The relations will be spearheaded by defence ties but economic cooperation will follow the suit with CPEC and other trade arrangements between the two friendly nations. Many may be thinking that it will harm Pak-US relations, but it would be under wrong assumptions only, in reality the opposite may occur or at least benefit Pakistan as it has decided to act independently. Now figure in Turkey and China in the picture...you have a beautiful scene.. (ماشاء الله)

SU-35 and TFX.....Collaboration with Turkey and Russia at the same time.....Coincidence? :D

@dadeechi @Blue Marlin and all others???

PAF procuring the SU-35s is just a matter of time.

1) In NOV-2015, Pakistan has leased strategic port of Gwadar to China for 43 years

2) In NOV-2015, China buys 24 advanced Russian Su-35 warplanes in estimated $2bn landmark deal

3) In MAY-2016, reacting to US withdrawing the financing for a US arms purchase, Sartaj Aziz, foreign affairs adviser to Nawaz Sharif, the Pakistani prime minister said If funding is arranged, Pakistan will get the F16s, Otherwise we will opt for jets from some other place. The Pakistan Air Force is looking at other options including the Russian SU35

Pak has limited cash, either it can spend on an already working 4++ fighter or wait for 5th gen to pop up.5th gen looks better option as TFX and J-31 are available in 10 years time frame.

Pakistan would procure SU-35s to protect the golden goose called CPEC. Once CPEC lays golden eggs, Pakistan would use those golden eggs to procure TFXs and J-31s when they are available a decade later.

China + Russia + Pakistan = CPEC
New great game started...this is the repeat of 1970s.

Actually it would be

Russia+Iran+Pakistan+ China

Iran to sell the gas
Russia to lay the pipeline
Pakistan to act as transit
China to buy the gas

If you look at it this way, it would be Russia + Iran + INDIA + Pakistan + China. Do you really think that India will miss out a 2.2 - 2.5 billion consumer market by staying away from the CPEC? This would bring a lot of competition to Indian products and services that India enjoys monopoly today (IT / BPO / Agriculture, etc), but it would also benefit over half a billion poor Indians and millions of smaller businesses inside India, who otherwise, couldn't afford to go to the West or sell or market their products to the West. What cheaper way to expand your business by truck, being connected to three times the size of your local market!!

The US would oppose it but no matter how you look at it, India will join the CPEC when it becomes a reality and they realize the benefits. It makes no sense to push something good away that can help you grow over half a billion of your own average people, and get your small businesses to become richer, while making peace with two of your major enemies!! You just can't beat the benefits and you also can't be at a war with any of these countries you share borders with. Those days have become history. This entire region is highly nuke-risk centered and no one would be left to even have an economy after a war (let alone "one of the top economies", the status India, China and now Pakistan enjoy). So why push something away that grows people, eliminates enemy-ism and makes them friends??

Please God that Pakistan and Russian Federation draw closer. What I would like to see is co-operation akin to Pakistan-China.

Perhaps Russian military bases in Pakistan? Perhaps a naval base on the Arabia Sea coast?
No, that's totally wrong approach. We want great relations but not submission of our sovereignty. If we are freeing our country from the claws of one set of powers, why should we surrender to another be Russia or China...Why can't we even think of independent relations based on mutual well being, coexistence and respect.

Russian Pakistani ties won't reach high levels for a while, as long as India continues to remain a key Russian arms buyer.

Having said that, if Pakistan can play its cards right, it can build a good professional relationship, but it must show Russia that it is worth building that professional relationship. Right now, the only thing Russia can offer to Pakistan are Russian engines (JF-17) and helicopters, but only because the Russians of Chinese assurances, plus they aren't all too happy with the Indians moving towards the US.
That's not true. If India was so important for Russia today, no such visit would have even be possible. Russia is a power despite the fact they have a bit of economic depression but it is Russia that has India by balls and not the other way round.
Pakistan took a long time in talking the step but it took and Russia welcomed it.
