Russia and China to Determine Configuration of Joint Transport Helicopter In Early 2015

(Source: Interfax; published Nov 11, 2014)

According to the CEO of the Russian Helicopters Alexander Mikheev, the technical configuration of the joint Russian and Chinese heavy-lift transport helicopter is going to be determined by February 2015.

"We are currently developing the program of cooperation and division of responsibility of both the parties. We are determining the activities that each party is going to be in charge of. It is important to define which design bureaus are going to be engaged and what expertise and technologies we are going to use. In two or three months we are going to hold certain negotiations, where the configuration and flight performance of this helicopter will become clear," said Mr. Mikheev to the press at the international Air Show China-2014 opened in Zhuhai on Tuesday.

It was previously reported that the Russian and Chinese heavy-lift helicopter was planned to be developed based on the technologies of Mi-26T — the heaviest helicopter in the world produced by Rosvertol (part of Russian Helicopters).

CEO also noted that the new helicopter is not going to be similar to or a modernized version of the Russian heavy-lift Mi-26T helicopter.

"This helicopter is going to be developed especially for the Chinese market to implement those missions established by various ministries and authorities of China, in particular, by the Emergency Situations Ministry," said Mr. Mikheev.

Moscow. Russia and China have agreed on a joint project to build helicopters and engines, Russia's high-tech Rostec corporation told RIA Novosti Friday.

"Rostec and AVIC have signed an agreement for strategic cooperation in the field of helicopter, engine and aircraft materials production… and a number of other equipment. Among the possible areas of work is the preparation and implementation of joint projects in Russia, China and other countries, as well as providing additional benefits on warranty and post-warranty services," Rostec press service said.

The press service also pointed out that a number of Rostec holdings already cooperate actively with AVIC, including a project to create a heavy helicopter, sales of titanium and aluminum semi-manufactured apparatus and joint work on the future of avionics.
"The Chinese side has also expressed an interest in establishing cooperation with their Russian colleagues in the research and production of special glass for high-speed trains and passenger aircraft," Rostec press service added.

The joint helicopter and engines production agreement was reached at the China International Aviation and Aerospace Exhibition, also known as Airshow China, an international aerospace trade show that has been held in Zhuhai every year from 1996. The exhibition sees the showcasing of life-size products, technological exchange and serves as a platform for trade talks. In 2014, the expo takes place from November 11 to 16.

This look like one of the Russian-India joint venture for Indians. Except this time, it would be for the Chinese. I wonder if the Russians would just take the money and do the work while the Chinese she'll out the doughs and wait outside until the job is done, the same way Russians treat Indians.

The Russian try with the Chinese on IL-76 deal and Su-27 deal. They know playing hard ball with Chinese do not work.
