Russia and China may work together on nuclear-powered destroyer

Russia is very likely to start construction on the world's third nuclear-powered destroyer with the assistance of China, according to the Sputnik News based in Moscow.

Admiral Igor Kasatonov, retired deputy commander of the Russian Navy, said the construction of the 10,000-ton Leader-class guided-missile destroyer would begin in 2017. Vasily Kashin, a military expert from the Center for Analysis of Strategies and Technologies based in Moscow, said the project provides a new opportunity for China and Russia to deepen defense cooperation.

The Leader-class destroyer would be the world's third nuclear-powered destroyer after the USS Truxtun (DLGN-35) and USS Bainbridge (DLGN-25) of the United States. Since both American vessels were later redesignated cruisers, the Leader-class would in fact be the only nuclear-powered destroyer in the world. Kashin said that the Leader-class is larger than the two American ships.

Unlike the US Navy, Russia does not have overseas naval bases around the world, the piece said, and it makes sense for Russia and China to build nuclear-powered destroyers or cruisers that can remain at sea for longer. Kashin also said China is working hard on the design of a nuclear-powered aircraft carrier. The participation of China in the construction of the Leader-class destroyer may give China the experience it needs, he said.

Russia also has two Nuclear Powered Battle Cruisers with displacemnt of 28,000 Ton (Full Load).

They are Pyotr Velikiy and Admiral Nakhimov.

There main armanament is 20 P 700 missiles with range of 625 KM.

What kind of permission you are talking about ? I don't understand really . Its not Russia who need Chinese technology buy otherwise . Let's not have argument about it . Its waste of time .

China has never purchased frigates from Russia.

So they could get double the money for design and ToT and in mass production in China to expand their fleet with less cost than building in Russia .

But I have doubt . A/C and Cruisers are very huge platforms always kept away from enemy's reach even during the operation (offensive or defensive) . When country like India - Which has vast sea lane with very less threat in the neighborhood and US - Which enjoys the same and more over they have many number of military bases to operate to keep the but assets safe .

But have can China have these costly platforms even its neighborhood is congested with enemies with good OE decent Anti Ship missile power ? That these A/C and Cruisers are very large vessels making them a prime target for the enemies .

Any thoughts ? Just a honest doubt . I really don't get it why China always want to have things just because others have it ? But how effective they could be ?

Chinese best weapons should be Submarines which are kept away from enemy's reach and can be use of defensive and offensive or in deterrent . Please read the article carefully. Kamov did not design the Z-10 helicopter in the context that you or I would've assumed they have. They provided assistance with the initial helicopter concept; there is no evidence nor talk that Kamov had anything to do with the actual blueprinting or development of the systems aboard the helicopter.

And of course, that has little to do with the article regarding China supposedly helping out Russia's destroyer project.

When country like India - Which has vast sea lane with very less threat in the neighborhood and US - Which enjoys the same and more over they have many number of military bases to operate to keep the but assets safe .

The PLAN (as with numerous other navies) have a multitude of countermeasures they could deploy against the likes of the BrahMos.

The PLAN (as with numerous other navies) have a multitude of countermeasures they could deploy against the likes of the BrahMos.

I don't want to go into if Russia helped China with most advanced PLAN frigate or Attack chopper .Its waste of time and it's ur wish to deny them . So its up to you . No problem

Aircraft carriers are indeed kept out of the enemy's reach by virtue of its escorting vessels (which is why you see Beijing & Delhi building destroyers and frigates). I'm not sure why you are bringing up this point as all navies with air arms conform to that practice.

Even your Nuclear submarine base will be the first targets in case of war. But once Submarines are submerged they are hard to be detected and that's not the case for A/C or cruiser . And there is not SAM systems which can respond to Supersonic Cruise missiles like brahmos .Until Laser missile defense systems comes into place

There are SAM systems that were designed to deal with the BrahMos and the PLAN is deploying them.
