Rugby - Why is not Pak playing this game

Man, Pak has well built young men, why does this sports not take hold or played.

With the Rugby world cup in in Japan. Amazing to see underdogs like Japan play really well; outside that there is hardly any Asian presence except for Japan/Russia.

Of course powerhouses RSA/NZ/England are there already; I really see no reason why this sport cannot take hold.
Trillion dollar question, I guess most moms would discourage their kids from playing because of the risks and unfortunately moms are faaar too attached to their kids to let them play this.
boring...
:angry::angry::angry: It not a game for sissy's. It's a game for men.

Also, the hard-hitting Rugby style results in injuries and inexperienced players are bound to injure more
Indeed. Rugby is like war. You can get injured. But sports like rugby, boxing etc help build a militaristic culture. No, not the PDF bravdo type. I mean disciplined fighting spirit. Our young need to play such sports. Reason -

  • helps nurture a strong militaristic culture
  • helps peace in society by enabling contolled release of aggression by young men
  • instead of fighting and shooting on the streets
  • etc

It's Never Really Been Part of Our Culture
These were never our culture either -

  • cricket
  • modern education
  • universities
  • banks
  • fast food
  • etc

.
Well Pakistan has had the skinny culture, skinny pants, and skinny leg syndrome
When someone has a muscular body , people say they are fat

The Pehalwan / wrestlers or Kabadi players mostly are from Rural areas as the diets are rich in Lassi and Natural farm goods.

Most people are unaware of rules of Rugby and doubt rural areas know what it is

Sports like Wrestling in School build character

Rugby is similar physique as Wrestling if we can produce world-class wrestlers, I am sure Rugby can be also done

The state of sports in Pakistan is actually shameful, all these sports associations are headed by retired generals or corrupt appointees who dont know anything about the sport and they pocket all the money they get for it it.

We desperately need a purge of all the sports organisations in this country starting from the Olympics commitee. I hope IK takes notice of this before his tenure is over.

I guess the colonials didn't bring Rugby to these shores, instead Cricket was introduced and adopted.

Bigger question is, why don't we play football. Next to zero interest in Pakistan, well, when I was growing up.

Don't be silly. We played rugger from the year of our founding, in 1836. In Calcutta, the others who played were the Armenians (horrible hard nuts to crack), the Calcutta Police and CC&FC (when the CFC merged with the CCC, the Clubs funds, held in silver rupees, were melted down into the Calcutta Cup, which is still played for between England and Scotland). Lucknow also plays; since they had, under the UP Board, classes up to Class XII, and since they were notoriously prone to take two years where we thought one should suffice, we faced the very nasty prospect of facing chaps twice our weight and several inches taller, and absolute savages in the scrum, not to mention their belief that liniment was to be imbibed internally, not merely rubbed on. There are clubs in Bombay/Mumbai; one of the better players is the well-known Indian actor, Rahul Bose, who started playing while he was in Sydenham College. The Mumbai Police also plays, and several other teams besides. It isn't a possible people's sport, but it is played.

As for cricket, as far as I know, the Brits first played a game between Madras and Calcutta. Don't know much about it; many of my friends played both, or either, but these weren't my games.

I heard this from someone long time ago, that the British Empire was built on the Rugby fields. something along those lines.

true....rugby mans are hot as hell:smitten:

Pakistan can thrive in it.
aboslutely, you already have a wrestling tradition. This is a multi-discipline and battle tactic formation game. Not for weak of heart.

.

These guys are perfect candidates for rugby

Pakistani Pehalwan, groups have the same body as needed by Rugby players but the issue is cultural exposure
Rugby was never introduced properly

Also, the hard-hitting Rugby style results in injuries and inexperienced players are bound to injure more

Second sport which resembles Rugby is Kabadi
Involves dodging and evasion and agility, apart from a big Physique

Kabadi players are also built like Rugby players

There is less runnnig in Kabaddi but , people still have to constantly keep moving

Rugby is combination of grapping / throws , and Kabadi which involves evasion and agility / running

The only difference is a rugby ball

Technically the Kabadi players can be used to play rugby if Pakistan ever wanted the team to play Rugby
These are perfect candidates for rugby; same physique and stamina and flexibility

You might be referring to the Duke of Wellington saying that "The Battle of Waterloo was won on the playing fields of Eton". Incidentally, he was an Eton boy himself.

Indeed. All elite British schools can be brutish in their character building. The children may come from privilaged families but what they turn out is mean ready to conquer the world. British India and the Empire was built by such boys. You can imagine the heat and dust of Sindh but that did not prevent Sir Charles Napiers troops marching to "Sin ed".

Back in 05 when I was in 11 standard someone once said that I should take an interest in this game and try for Islamabad jinns after a year or two.

The problem is that each type of physically intensive sports need associated diet, kit e.t.c

This gets out of range for common folk as there is no sponsorship.

I used to play Basketball during uni in 07-10 and I used my freelancing money to buy 110$ plus Bball shoes and for high protein diet e.t.c

You can sponsor yourself that much.

I think we ought to move on from cricket and move on to football and other athletic games.

. .
Rather than getting into new sports, Pakistan should put more effort to try to recover lost glories in sports like Hockey and Squash.

Sad due to the obsession with cricket....The damage this has done to other sports in Pakistan is unmeasurable.
Pakistan doesn’t even have any world class talent anymore in wrestling....
