They should give the contract to some private firm, let them build-operate and tranfer.

Government doesn't need to chip in.

Private firm can get to collect tolls, run their buses and stop-stations.

Yup you are absolutely right...In fact i am a little surprised that this is not a usual practice in Pakistan....These days the norm in India is to hire a private firm, make them build highway/motorway and allow them to take tolls for 10-15 years to make up the money....

Govt and public gets excellent highways, private firms get revenue almost 10 folds the money they invested....Result is absolute win-win....b/w Emmar/MGF is one such provate firm who literally have built entire Gurgaon(new IT hub in Haryana)...do you have similar groups out there in Pakistan???

the failure of Chinese locomotives was our own fault of importing the cheapest items and bagging a good commission. otherwise Chinese locomotives have recently touched world records and successfully implemented for the Holy City railway in KSA.

EMAAR is working on a number of Luxury projects in Pakistan, especially Karachi.


The last motorways were built with help from Daewoo of Korea, and at that time they were allowed to run their Bus lines toll free.

But the entire political setup under Nawaz Sharif wanted to benefit so they created hurdles in everything. Daewoo eventually left and Motorway was completed after so long with so many difficulties.


I wonder who is really building the M4?

FWO? NLC? or some foreign firm.

Looks like the controversy over the purchase of new locomotives has been resolved, with locomotives from the US being preferred over the ones from China.

IIRC, the US locomotives offered the best value for the money long term, especially given the poor previous experience with the locomotives provided by the Chinese company that was in the running.

My Uncle works for GE Pakistan and they have been working on this tender for a long time.

No point in getting expensive/good locomotives when the rest of the infrastructure is failing and the management is in a mess.

Do you really think that GE locomotives are coming like a blessing?

I am pretty sure they will be more expensive to maintain. If you order any parts from GE, they literally skin you.

A lot of people in the government will benefit from this deal and obviously the GE itself.

Emaar is a great company. They have just built a huge neighborhood called canyon views in Islamabad. They are now working on Crescent Bay (Over 40 residential buildings, malls and hospitals) in Karachi. They have also decided to build Diamond Bar City in Karachi's Bundle and Budoo Island. We have more similar groups like DHA, Bahria etc.

btw Gurgaon is a nice peaceful city.

Emaar is a great company. They have just built a huge neighborhood called canyon views in Islamabad. They are now working on Crescent Bay (Over 40 residential buildings, malls and hospitals) in Karachi. They have also decided to build Diamond Bar City in Karachi's Bundle and Budoo Island. We have more similar groups like DHA, Bahria etc.

btw Gurgaon is a nice peaceful city.

I hope the Bundle and Budoo Island project never kicks off!!

There are poor fisherman earning hard living there. No one has the right to change their land.


Government should change the area into a nice resort/boat trip site...not some concrete jungle by EMAAR.

Bundle and Budoo Island will contribute more to the economy then some fishermen will. Its a billion dollar project and I hope it is a big success considering emaar's commitment and the good feedback they have been getting.
