What's new

Rs. 442 bn accord for construction of Diamer-Bhasha dam signed

By the way from fund rising perspective...
15 billion is 4% of 423 billion cost and 50% of annual need..not bad for fund rising..

as a general principle If we hit 25% rest can be arranged from loans and other sources..

I donate for it frequently. I hope it get made asap

I'm hearing that within the contract there is agreement for 21 MW Tangir HPP as well.... Aek teer se do shikaar.

Mind you this contract is only for dam part.... The power generation will come later.
we dont need power generation IMO..

dam will give benefits of 5 billion units of electricty produced due to additional water.... from tarblea, ghazi brotha, dasu and chashma...this will rise further after dasu stage 2 which is not possible before bhasha dam..(even though can be funded via WB)

so dam part only should have been constructed last 10 years rather than dilly-dallying...

units downstream equal to 50 billion rupees annual revenues which is RR of 15%

As of December 2019, public debt of Pakistan is estimated to be about ₨ 40.94 trillion and there was no dam build in what last 40/50 years. Million dollar question is why? Where did all the borrow money go? Where was it spent?

Pakistan has been hurt more by its internal enemies as compared to external.

This tweet from late April seems to have been missed... There is a concentrated push to pursue HPP perhaps to kill the dual menace of circular debt and IPP mafia

So Suki Kunari, Karot, Bhasha and Mohmand under construction and Dasu and Kohala to start soon. Mashallah

IPP are simply charging too much..with faulty formulas...and incredible returns(twice that of india)..
ever wonder why there is only a Qatari letter..you got your answer
e.g they got 30% debt from the local market but charges that in cents..and devaluation mean massive increase

mind you though..kohola is very expensive in my opinion(7 cents) still cheaper than coal or and way cheaper than furnace but it is expensive..
i think either we need competitive bidding or renegotiations on even some of these hydro projects ..

we also need to unshackle WAPDA so it can go to international market and raise equity through bonds

The most important thing is dam. That stores water. Water is life. Water is economy as it fuels our produce. Water is everything. Floods every year would end.

World Bank is not funding it. Everyone has tried their best but they are not ready to fund it.

WB is not funding projects in GB but down stream inculding thakot, pathan and dasu they will (if agressive lobbying done) as that is not disputed its in KPK

cost of Lahore-Islamabad motorway adjusted for inflation is more than bhasha dam project.

this motorway was build when there was not enough traffic to let a dualization of the main GT road..it was still single when this motot way was build 30 years ago..
one wonder why wasnt karachi hyderrabad motorway built first as it as 10X more traffic than lahoreislamabad..
or why wasnt GT road dualized first

I know that. I just don't want to write.
Bhai they don't invest. Neither america or any other. The reason that gb is not a province yes, but the big reason is that it is 15 billion dollars single largest project and would give yeild 6 to 7 years down line and would take 25 years to fulfil their investment. So no one was ready.
That is also the major reason.
World Bank is already funding dasu dam.
Kohala can also be funded by World Bank or under cpec.
Pattan is small one we can make it ourselves.
So in overall quite number of dams are under construction.
Kuram tangi in x-fata
Sukhi kinari dam
Mohmand dam
Dasu dam are under construction
Then bhasha, thakot also under construction along with gulpur. Other too under construction.
Naulong dam in Balochistan may start next year. So we are in pretty good condition then we are few years back and in 3 to 4 years time when all the projects are competed except bhasha dam then it can bring a real change and a mental relief to the nation in terms of water safety. They should also work on dams in punjab specially there are many planned. And are small. So would be best investment for the local area.
