Role of Indonesia during 1965 Indo-Pak war.

Just read in social media regarding PM Modi's visit to Indonesia. That Indonesia wanted to send/sent its navy to lay siege to Andaman in order to divert India from 1965 War. I searched and found a little mention in Quora. Not a bit more.

Can anyone put some more light/data on this?

I have found no good source on it (I have also come across this claim a few times). Sukarno was pretty friendly with India/Nehru and was wary of Indian navy (and upsetting relations with India long term)...he may have done some political posturing/threats given konfrontasi period at the time (with Malaysia) to try distract from the mounting failures there, but certainly no plans/commitments.

Certainly when he was deposed by Suharto, this became a complete non-issue as Suharto made peace with Malaysia and no more distractions were needed....in deed the attention turned to East Timor for most of his tenure.

Soekarno, need distraction nonetheless his 32.000 Marines forces already prepared for operation in Papua (the aborted Jayawijaya operation because the Dutch yields to our demands will left to be of no use) and he is doesnt wanna to escalating conflict against British forces in Malay and Borneo because he is fully aware Indonesia armed forces is no match to coalition of Britsh, Canadian and Australian forces there. But the case India supporting British and Malaysian forces in Konfrontasi left him irk and irritated somewhat. There is articles in Indonesia language about the Naval task forces (mostly Submarine forces) and Many fighter squadrons and bomber is being relocated toward northern area of Sumatra at 1965.

Well it is quite missleading for the Indian Navy officer at the times to dismiss Indonesian Navy and Air Forces as not a threat (the same attitudes of them regarding Chinese in their norther border) . And if conflict ever happened in Andaman and Nicobar i doubt they can said the same.

India was part of NAM, I seriously doubt India would have any beef in some remote feud. India did provide moral support in africa but Indonesia I doubt so.

world is changed since 1965 forget it and move ahead . rahi modi ki baat he will not stop his world tour .

Well his world tours bring good FDI to India so Its not a bad idea. Last year It was around 60 billion USD.

Hmm, British free of use Indian ports at the time is one of the most crucial ones. I am forgot one important facts, at the times Soekarno and Indonesia Communist Party is leaning toward China and CCP, and Sino India war is becoming critical on how Soekarno judge Indonesia relationship with India (who leaning toward Soviet). Thats explain a lot actually.
