Thank you for news cabatli. Air defence is our biggest problem. I hope some day we can produce our own long alt. medium-long range defence missiles.

Any information about tactical purpose? Against helicopters, planes, missiles? :D

I've looked up both in Wikipedia, and whilst the Iris-T is smaller and has a shorter operational range ~25 km it has a greater altitude 20km. the MICA is bigger and has a longer operational range ~60 km with an altitude of 11km. Both are Air-to-Air missile, but the MICA has a greater Mach speed.

Any spec info on the Roketsans Low & Med. altitude missiles ?

Both Missiles will have TVC controls to perform sharp manouvres towards targets While following. The propulsion technology will make the differences between Low-Medium altitude missiles (Same mentality with Aster-15 and 30 missiles). The propulsion tech. of Medium altitude with fuel amount will provide missile to reach much longer ranges than low altitude. The rests such as seeker, fuse, guidance would have been developed with similar technologies.

Besides, The domestic low and medium altitude missiles would be used on Naval warships (Milgem, TF-100, TF-2000) and Aircrafts (F-35 and F-16) as well...

I really want to see brother Pakistan as an equal partner of those two program. They may create a new vision to protect homeland skies with safe domestic systems/subsystems to both Pakistan-Turkey without needing any of foreign source-codes, flying algorithms protected secret by missile producers. Everbody knows the Exocet SSM events in Falkland war.


-During the meeting, both the Ministers discussed joint defence production projects including capacity building and technology up-gradation of Pakistan Ordnance Factories, air defence, and naval combat system projects.

Turkey is planning to develop a system looking like French VL-Mica. Even design of Roketsan has lots of similarities with it.

Both low and medium altitude missile system would be developed with family integrity principles. I mean Roketsan applied this development system for AT missile programs and Trials have been proceeding with great successes. I mean OMTAS has lots of similar parts and technologies with UMTAS AT.

It would be same for air defence missiles as well. Both will have similar design and used lots of similar parts such as fuse, guidance, seeker head. Propulsion technologies of both make them differ from eachother.
Same principle with Aster 15 and Aster 30 missile systems...

I hope Turkey produce equivalent to IRIST (One of the WVR Missile) .Could be very useful for JF-17.

How quickly can the mobile VL system be deployed and first missile be fired. And what's the range ?

I think the mobile unit looks quite big, I'm thinking small and quick is the keyword here.

Be carefull not to confuse the operational of these missiles in A2A (AAM) application versus that in S2A (SAM) application, which is likely much shorter as a lot of fuel is burned simply getting off the ground and up to intercept speed (there's a reason why VL Mica is classified as SHORADS... short range air defence system ). I have a distinct feeling that 60km missile range for MICA is in A2A mode, whereas the 25km range given for IRIS-T is S2A.

You need to compare operational range of 'VL Mica' with 'IRIS-T SLS' specifially.

While IRIS-T SL (Surface Launch) is a medium-range air defence system, IRIS-T SLS (Surface Launch Short range) is a true short-range air defence system using the IRIS-T air-to-air missile without any changes. Compared to IRIS-T, IRIS-T SL is equipped with a larger solid-propellant rocket motor, a data link and a nose cone for drag reduction. By comparison, VL Mica is the Mica AAM adopted for ground launch, without missile modifications (i.e. no booster, larger motor etc).
