Muhammad Waseem a young and rising boxing star who won the silver medal in Commonwealth boxing finals for Pakistan, expresses his fears for political backlash from the current govt citing his political beliefs.

I personally believe that no Pakistani athlete should ever have to experience such fears as Sportsmen are also free and independent citizens, free to attain and express a political persuasion which they deem fit for their country. What do you believe in?

Its dangerous to be right when the govt is wrong...

be strong and never give up, Allah will give you opportunities..

Waseem has done the right......... I support freedom of expression and speech and liberty to chose political affiliations.........
PML(N) has a very vengeful and arrogant attitude........ If they stay in power........ I'm sure Waseem's career will end..........
Remember, in case of Musharraf they have did not hold their end of the deal.

Waseem can have a career outside Pakistani while representing Pakistan. ;)

I respect this athlete's courage and conviction, but if he holds any Government position then he should ideally refrain from any politics barring casting his vote.

He should be focusing on his sport rather than politics.

Everyone supports Freedom of Speech and expression and political protests when they are PEACEFUL. What we DON'T and NO ONE SHOULD support is open Domestic Terrorism under the cover of LYING, BETRAYAL to your own followers getting injured and losing lives AND to destroy and attack state institutions.
IS PMLN really a "vengeful" organization? They are showing restraint although being in the power where they could do anything.

I think the ENTIRE world has seen Mullah's Taliban attacking constitutional buildings / State Symbols on live TV. You don't need to run your propaganda machine to make us believe otherwise!

Yes, I agree. The MILITARY and Sportsmen don't have anything to do with the politics. They are not trained or experts on Politics, Economy, Foreign Policy or Trade, things essential to running a country. A GI surgeon will probably kill a Patient in surgery with Quadrupole CABG surgery, because simply, its not what he's been trained for.

Everybody has his opinion but it requires maturity to express it at right time ..or else if you use whatever flatform you got for political point scoring you have to face consequences

Everybody has right to express their feelings but you have to follow the system whether its right or corrupt.

There is no wrong in having a view but he could do a lot good by keeping his mouth shut.

Loved his bouts in the Common wealth games, a real talent, but he makes it clear that he loves his country more than his career. So I guess he is making he decision after some deep thinking not just on emotions. Godspeed to him.
Will be missing his bouts in the upcoming Asian games.
