Reuters: India destroys bunkers at Chumar to end border stand-off

Read my post again to get your answer.

I'll quote it again in case you missed it.

You don't know anything about the Chinese LAC because we have not released it, your Indian maps are just guessing games.

We were at the DBO, and we did not cross our perception of the LAC. So the DBO is within the disputed region, and India agrees since they also withdrew their troops from there.

Sources said India's troop pullback only refers to the tents put up right opposite to the Chinese troops' post on April 15.

I don't know why some people keep going on about some "tin shed".

The Reuters source and the Indian Army officials used the word "bunkers" multiple times.

This is a Defence forum, I'm sure people know what bunkers are.

Actually, one doesn't 'destroy' a tin shed. It is 'dismantled'! :azn:

Someone at the center need to make a statement in this regard. If it is a bunker which was destroyed so be it. Instead of trying to claim a pyrrhic victory and sweep it under carpet, the incident needs to be looked at closely. If the lack of preparedness is what is the issue behind this conceding, then let it be so - India had learnt a 21st century lesson similar to the one it learnt in 1962 but at a much lower cost and speed up the defense preparedness. Looking at the two snippets from an article published in rediff, it seems all is not well wrt our defense preparedness.

Army sources protest that the Indian bunkers that China wants dismantled are deep on our side of LAC, on the western bank side of the Indus, an area that China has never claimed even at its most acquisitive. Driving out the Chinese incursion at DBO would hardly be a problem, say top Indian commanders; a battalion, with adequate fire support, could do this within minutes.

But the Chinese are better placed for a build-up and would retaliate strongly.

But New Delhi's top national security policymakers were not inclined to initiate a military confrontation with China, howsoever limited. That left the government with little choice other than diplomatic negotiations during two forthcoming high-level political meetings: Foreign Minister Salman Khurshid will visit Beijing on Thursday, and China's new premier, Li Keqiang, is scheduled to visit New Delhi later this month.

India agrees to some Chinese demands to end Himalaya standoff | Reuters

Since it was these bunkers that were the root cause of the entire incident, it seems the issue is really over.

These are not bunkers but tin sheds. So much for your incursions and bullying, you lost your Chinese lobby here in India.

Play your game correctly, bullying and aggressive tactics won't work here,Sun tzu is been forgotten here.

That too some of them were built on April 18, after the row has began.

No deal with China, says Salman Khurshid; India removed tin shed at Chumar

A tin shed structure put up by the Indian troops at Chumar area in Ladakh, three days after the Chinese incursion in Depsang, was the bargaining chip that led to a resolution between the two countries.

Sources said the Indian side started building the structure around the time that Foreign Secretary Ranjan Mathai called Chinese ambassador Wei Wei on April 18 to his South Block office to put forward India's demand to "restore the status quo" prior to the incursion. The tin shelter was located about 7-8 km ahead of India's most forward permanent structure in the area. China claims the site as its territory, while Delhi claims otherwise.

Mathai decided to call in the Chinese envoy after the Chinese government, under the joint working mechanism, gave "vague" and "non-credible" responses to MEA Joint Secretary Gautam Bambawale. While Mathai and Bambawale made over 25 calls in three weeks, Indian ambassador to China S Jaishankar told Chinese officials that the incident "will affect bilateral relations", sources said.

Jaishankar met the Chinese side at least thrice to convey Delhi's message for restoring status quo. However, New Delhi never threatened to cancel Chinese premier Li Keqiang's visit slated for May 19.

When the Chinese troops dismantled their tents on May 5, the Indian side too removed their tin shed structure. Sources said status quo was confirmed at the flag meeting on May 6 and the arrangement was confirmed to South Block on May 7. However, the Indian troops will continue to patrol the Chumar area.

External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid on Wednesday said there was "no deal" between India and China for ending the 21-day stand-off. "No deals in international levels... we do not do deals at this level," he said.

Asked about his visit to China starting May 9, Khurshid said, "We will talk about the future, and our leadership is committed towards that and the great things India and China can and must do together." He is expected to call on Chinese State Councillor Yang Jiechi among others.
