Today in my local news paper I found out that now there is a movement to return the books to their authors i.e books written by the authors who have returned their awards(with a request to buy back). Is this true?

If it is then the division is complete. Now when Congress will be back in power, we will see the other group of writers & co returning their awards for some other issues like corruption etc.!! Reasons can be manufactured!!:D.

Good, will increase the sell of those books!

Very good reaction.

Burn their books in front of them. They are shame less and will not have much effect of that but they will realize that other can also do what they can do. Tit for Tat.

No friend, I never supported burning books or killing some body. It is a shame. But one can publish the addresses of these writers, so that one who does not agree with them can return those by parcels/couriers. It is a ideological war and must be fought in the same way.

I am also against the killing of some one but burning of their book is not a violence. Return or burn their books and do not purchase it subsequently.

Its a shame you were not around to advice Gandhi not to build bonfires burning British cloths. :coffee:

He even foolishly called it Satyagraha.

This mode of protest does not make sense.

First: Once a book is brought ,author get his royalty. Subsequent sale and purchase doe not lead to any gain for publisher and author. This is the reason why publishers and authors hate ,and try their best to limit, second hand book market.

Second: If someone is thinking of returning books to publisher, he would find that either he could not do so, or there is a time limit for returning a book.

Third: These authors may have won an award ,but most of them are rank mediocre. I have read their award winning pieces on twitter when it trended. Some were pure pornographic stories, other were class II poems, and the only award for Sanskrit literature ,since independence, has been granted to someone who wrote "Indira charitra". These authors could not recover even price of binding from direct sales. They depend upon their work being prescribed as recommended study in Universities, and bulk purchases by library.

If you want to hurt them than destroy their ecosystem, rather than these juvenile kind of protests. First of these would be to bankrupt small leftist publications who provide leftists a cheap platform to start their career. Most of them are not financially sound ,and in absence of patronage, could be driven into the ground by litigation costs. Thus it would be much better for people to find some offending part in work of the author they want to target and drive that author and his publisher into court. Winning is immaterial. It is fighting that would count. Second: Government should blacklist award returnees and should not show them any hospitality in future (no awards, no official accommodation, no seminars/study tours in taxpayer's dime), and instruct libraries and Universities it control (real control, not JNU type control) to not prescribe or buy works of these authors, though there are enough leftist Uni's ,who would prescribe their book as course material, and Congress ruled states ,who would buy their work in bulk, that they could survive a mildly hostile BJP.

Government should first differentiate between the political campaigners and genuinely concerned ones, then invite the latter group to join a progressive intellectuals' body to promote culture, harmony, education, etc. in the society...and quietly screw the political ones by acceptable means...Congress would have done the same!

Why ?

Can you explain why are we required to provide a "special" platform for the "elite" ? Rajya sabha is not good enough anymore ? TV Studios and publications houses and print media is not good enough ? :coffee:

How many more "special" platforms do they need ?

The Plebs have spoken so the gentes better fall in line.

Congress was the master of "appeasement" politics. I can see that you are addicted to the same poison and wish the BJP to provide you with the same narcotic to sustain your "secularism". But those days are gone for good. Better kick the drug habit of appeasement politics and focus on EQUALITY FOR ALL.

No need to change INDIA first to "ELITE" first or "Special category" first.
