Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) founder Altaf Hussain has said his party will get more votes in the upcoming elections than the votes it bagged in the past elections, and the results will shock the political players.

There has been a significant increase in the number of hides of sacrificial animals donated to the Khidmat-e-Khalq Foundation this Eid as compared to their numbers in the past, he said, addressing a large gathering of party workers and office-bearers on Sunday at the main camp set up for the collection of hides under the KKF.

Members of the Coordination Committee and elected representatives were also present on the occasion.Hussain said that the MQM was leading other political parties in serving the people with honesty, integrity, hard work, courage and determination. He said that no other political party could compete with the workers of the MQM in these traits.

He said that the MQM was the only party that had taken birth in the poor and middle class segment of society and sent able and educated people to the elected houses. It was because of this that the forces wanting to perpetuate the status quo tried repeatedly to crush the MQM and wipe it out, he said.

Hussain expressed grief and sorrow over the death of several innocent people in incidents of terrorism, and said that terrorism on the occasion of Eid was unfortunate. “Festivals of any religion should be worthy of respect, and even if there is war between two sides it is put on hold in respect of the festival.”

He thanked the people for donating hides of the sacrificial animals to the KKF in record numbers. “The overwhelming manner in which the people have reposed their confidence in the KKF has broken all past records.”

Hussain praised MQM workers who remained steadfast in difficult times, braved hardships of jail and left their homes during the repressive state operations in the 1990s but their courage and resolved could not be diminished.

He said that the hardworking, courageous and sincere workers like those of the MQM could not be found throughout the world. Other parties in Pakistan did not have even five percent of such workers.

Hussain said that during the periods of the four pious caliphs, the commander of the faithful and the common person had equal rights. If anyone wanted to see a glimpse of the equality of that period, he could see it in the MQM where the high and the low were equal, he said, adding that there was no discrimination at all and workers were given even more respect than the office-bearers of the party.

Hussain said that the MQM was striving to establish a system in which no feudal lord or rich person could subject common people to cruelties. The MQM wanted to abolish age-old customs based on ignorance.

“We want to bring a system in which women will feel protected while going out of their homes, and no one would be able to cast an evil eye on them. The law and order situation would be so good that people would not feel threatened even in leaving their shops opened.”

Another statement released by the MQM said Altaf Hussain also expressed grave concerns over increasing incidents of kidnappings for ransom and demands for extortion. He urged the business community to pluck up the courage to tell the public about the criminal elements involved in kidnappings and sending extortion slips, and that the people who support them.

He complimented the Muslims throughout the world on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha and said that this festival “reminds us about the Sunnah of Prophet Hazrat Ibrahim (AS)”.

The MQM leader said that Eid was the festival of joy and happiness, but the workers of the MQM had been sacrificing their happiness for the last 35 years by following the Sunnah of Hazrat Ibrahim (AS) and making a practical demonstration of self-sacrifices.

He said that the MQM workers and office-bearers always served the people in difficult times. Whether it was devastation caused by heavy floods or catastrophic earthquake or any other disaster, the MQM workers “give up their rest, food and comfort for bringing help to the needy people”.

Hussain said that the MQM wanted to serve the people without fearing about the consequences. The MQM believed in serving the people irrespective of the prejudices of caste, colour, race, ethnicity, religious beliefs and sects, he added.

He said his party believed in promoting religious and sectarian harmony, showing tolerance towards each other and establishing a universal harmony among different religions. He said that certain elements were trying to sabotage the efforts of the MQM in order to ruin the peace of Karachi.

Hussain said that it was the responsibility of the establishment to find out about elements in its ranks which were supporting and protecting the criminals involved in kidnappings for ransom and taking extortion money in Karachi.
