Iran believes Pakistan wants to eventually reinstall Taliban in Afghanistan, and Iran doesn't want that.

Iran and India cooperated in Afghanstan against Pakistan.

It is yet another idiocy of GOP that we ignored the effect on Iran when deciding our Afghanistan strategy after Soviet withdrawal.

Iran was not even the player in Afghanistan post revolution they only entered there due to khomeni rehotric of exporting the revolution..and turned Afghanistan into a mess..Trying to enforce something without knowing ABCD of regional demographics what they managed at best was a loose gang of anti-pushtoon thugs named Northern-Alliance. The Iranians dont realize that they are fast becoming the most unwelcome element in their own civilization heart land due to the mullahs of tehran.

The Iranians are already encircled by powerful Saudi-US alliance in Gulf..do the presence of taliban really mattered in Afghanistan. And intially there was no wahabbi overshadow on talibans, it only came after extensive flow of money and aid to taliban leaders by Saudi and UAE rulers.

The Gulf is to one side of Iran; Afghanistan is on the other side.

Also, the Wahhabi influence started during the Soviet conflict. By the time to Soviets left, the Taliban were solidly Wahhabi. The irony is that Masud came to Pakistan and we could have mediated between NA and the Taliban, but we rebuffed the NA and let India/Iran take them.

North Alliance wanted much more free Afghatan than a medival age state talibans had envisioned to create as such mediation would only make Taliban incite pushtoon tribals against Pakistan. An intresting note than while Taliban maintained animosity with NA on religious grounds, the NA animosity with rest of Afghanistan was largely ethinic.

Aston Martin are you referring to last week’s border clash between Afghan forces and Pakistani soldiers, a friendly fire incident, which resulted in the unfortunate death of a Pakistani soldier? By what leap of logic do you conclude that the US or NATO murdered him? First, NATO was not involved in this incident. Moreover, Pakistan and the Pakistani Army is our ally. Why would we deliberately attempt to put our long standing partnership in jeopardy? Does this make any sense? On the contrary, as allies, we are helping to train Pakistani soldiers in counterinsurgency operations and increasing our development aid to Pakistan.

The entire international community is backing us and the NATO troops in our daily life threatening battles with the Taliban and Al-Qaeda terrorists. Similar battles are fought by the Pakistani Army against the same enemy on Pakistani soil.
