LAHORE: A resolution calling for making a Bahawalpur a seperate province has been filed in the Punjab Assembly Secretariat. The resolution was brought forward by an MPA from the PML-Z.

The resolution stated that attempts to make seperate provinces along ethnic lines is against national interests.

It also said that slogans for creating new provinces along those lines is a conspiracy that is affecting the attempt to make Bahawalpur a seperate province.

The resolution also said that before making any other new provinces, Bahawalpur should be made a new province.

A province on administrative grounds is a good step, give everybody a small area to govern, might see the area being developed once the CM has less area to excise his duty on.

on the contrary...one unit system of ayub khan was more succesful than provinces......but lets see...let it be an experiment

These bastards can make a thousand provinces as long as they can't solve core problems they will only make it worse then it is currently.

More provinces more senators/ministers/governors, other additional officials and so on and more Pays for these goons while a common Pakistan gets nothing out of it. You people can imagine how much a governor's pay is and then senators and ministers and all other officials working under them the burden will be on our Treasury. Common Pakistani is as good a dirt.

But, Ayub Khan as a dictator. Nobody questioned him, nobody took his things to the court , nor was their the media to lambast each decision. Times have changed.

I am all for new provinces based on administrative grounds although for PPP it is more like divide and rule stuff for federation. Many small loose provinces will strenghten the centre as being the undisputed, more of a father-like patron, a protector rather than one to wrestle with.

I believe Punjab should be divided into Pothahar, Lahore and Seraiki provinces.

Sindh into Hyderabad-Karachi and Interior region.

FATA and PATA be merged into a province too.

Balochistan be divided into Gwadar, Quetta & Kalat subdivisions.

This will better administration & all parts of country will witness equitable development, as resources will be with provinces.

Centre should control Defense, Foreign Affairs, Trade & Commerce, Finance & an umbrella for provincial home departments.

Education, health, law & order and social programmes ought to be devolved.

It will help us instill unity & discpline. And then all these ethinic divides to be bridged on the top by Islam & Nationalism which has to be our guiding principle.

PPP is doing all politics, though. Further, a two third majority is necessary to pass such bills in Provincal Assembly and the Parliament and that is not achievable without help of Sharifs.

Man these A**holes. I hope they all die soon.

What's the point in making new provinces? They can't handle the ones they already have. More governors and ministers and more corruption. Nothing else.

It is the man behind the gun who matters. Instead of discouraging new provinces, we should have the lucrative packages sent down the bin.

Smaller provinces will hopefully be in a better position to address issues at micro level. I also expect this to rachet up the quality of governance just like green revolution times when land holdings were reduced.

Absolutely not, smaller/bigger provinces are out of question these are being created for themselves to be maharajas.

These governments needs to resolve bigger problems of bread and butter, shelter, healthcare, education, electricity, water and so on.

I explained the burden will be on the treasury for more pays to these governing bodies and the common Pakistanis would still be living a dirt's life begging.

How many provinces we need ???

It depends on the number of the political parties we have in Pakistan. The godfather like leaders of every small and big political party are craving for their own little fiefdom where they can rule like an undisputed king - à la Sharifs of Lahore, Bhuttos of Naudero and bhai of Karachi.

They want to carve out more provinces in souther Punjab and the ostensible reason is the long standing demand of the Seraiki people, but in reality they have tow other objectives - the PPP can control the new province through Pirs and landlords of southern Punjab who have always been pro PPP and it will also considerably weaken the power of PMLN.

can you tell me how "Provinces" are made on Administrative basis ?

Its funny how people support creation of new provinces but don't want to discuss/address the real problems of Pakistan as how to resolve them practically.

We have seen is for the last 64 years and the personal expenditure of every government in power for themselves upon themselves. More provinces is all about sharing more resources/funds among themselves keeping all political characters happy.

More provinces means more loans from external organizations/banks in the name of new provincial setups and budgets. Any sane person should automatically come to the conclusion of this dirty manipulative game being played by PPP/PML-N/MQM.
